Reginald Ferguson [00:01:06]:
I guess so. I never thought of it that way.
Tiff [00:01:08]:
Well, we discerned that on our watch episode in the Past. You know? A previous episode, we talked about watches. Yep.
Reginald Ferguson [00:01:14]:
I'm rocking my classic fifties boulevard tank right now.
Tiff [00:01:19]:
Nice.
Reginald Ferguson [00:01:21]:
Beautiful. Thank you very much.
Tiff [00:01:23]:
Antique watches are the thing.
Reginald Ferguson [00:01:25]:
They have been for me for quite a long time, actually.
Tiff [00:01:28]:
There's a lot of value in those.
Reginald Ferguson [00:01:31]:
Yeah. Our, our previous guest wanted to caught one of my watches.
Tiff [00:01:37]:
Oh, yeah?
Reginald Ferguson [00:01:38]:
I said, no way, kid. Get your own. You see? He's so cute. He's so nice. He was like no. He literally was like, I really like that. Can I have it? I was like, no.
Tiff [00:01:49]:
Oh, seriously?
Reginald Ferguson [00:01:49]:
Oh, yeah. He did it a few times.
Tiff [00:01:51]:
Oh.
Reginald Ferguson [00:01:51]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Tiff [00:01:52]:
Oh, alright.
Reginald Ferguson [00:01:53]:
He was like, I really like that.
Tiff [00:01:54]:
Joking with you.
Reginald Ferguson [00:01:55]:
Right. Right. That's why I'm the tough cop of fashion, and you're the good cop of fashion.
Tiff [00:02:02]:
Alright. Well, I'm okay with that.
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:03]:
Cool.
Tiff [00:02:04]:
I can never be a tough cop or a bad cop. It's not in my blood.
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:07]:
That's okay.
Tiff [00:02:08]:
So, Reg Yes? 2nd episode of the new decade Yep, Herb. 2020. What we got going on?
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:15]:
Well, I really wanna talk about it in March, but I'm here to tell you that I I'm going to be one of the many vendors at Wedding Crashers 2020. What? Yeah.
Tiff [00:02:30]:
That's awesome.
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:31]:
Yeah.
Tiff [00:02:31]:
Thanks. What is this wedding wedding crashers? What is it?
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:34]:
Wedding Crashers is a wedding expo that's going on its 11th year in the neighborhood next to mine in Gowanus in
Tiff [00:02:42]:
BK. Okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:45]:
And I want to see if I could be a vendor for one of my services under New York fashion geek, The Groomsman.
Tiff [00:02:54]:
The Groomsman.
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:55]:
Yes. Play on words. Yes. Just like n y f g. So I'm ponied up.
Tiff [00:03:01]:
And tell tell us briefly, what the what's your elevator pitch for the brute grooms man?
Reginald Ferguson [00:03:05]:
Well, essentially, as you well know, the lady has everything, Guys.
Tiff [00:03:09]:
Yes. We do.
Reginald Ferguson [00:03:11]:
Hair person, nail person. Even the wedding planner really services the lady.
Tiff [00:03:17]:
Yep.
Reginald Ferguson [00:03:17]:
But what does the guy have, guys? Nothing. No one until I came along.
Tiff [00:03:25]:
You are.
Reginald Ferguson [00:03:26]:
The groomsman. I am here for you guys. Gonna help you out. Nice. Gonna pick out a tux for you, pick out a suit, help out your boys, the groomers men. Maybe oh, Tiff, I gotta show you this. Maybe even help you pick out a keepsake gift for your boys. Oh, that's I'm gonna handle everything satorily and a little bit more.
Tiff [00:03:52]:
Alright. Nice. Are you gonna also take them to get the nails done? Because, you know, I it's not
Reginald Ferguson [00:03:57]:
moving on.
Tiff [00:03:57]:
So It is a thing. I've seen guys get their nails done.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:01]:
This may be one of the keepsakes. Oh. Testing that out with a vendor.
Tiff [00:04:06]:
That's nice.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:07]:
You like that?
Tiff [00:04:08]:
That's a money clip, isn't it?
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:09]:
Yes. It is. Not only is a money clip, it's a double money clip.
Tiff [00:04:13]:
What do you do with the other half?
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:14]:
Whatever I want. Credit cards on one side, dollar bills on the other.
Tiff [00:04:18]:
And it's in it's Got your name on it.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:21]:
It does.
Tiff [00:04:21]:
It's nice. Red. Very nicely done.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:25]:
Thank you. Stainless steel.
Tiff [00:04:26]:
That's beautiful.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:27]:
Thank you.
Tiff [00:04:28]:
Very nice. Got a nice weight to it too.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:30]:
It does. Yeah. Not messing around.
Tiff [00:04:33]:
You drop that on the ground, you'll hear it. That's what you want.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:37]:
So really looking forward to it. It's in March. Okay. I believe it's Sunday, March 22nd.
Tiff [00:04:43]:
Alright. Mark your calendars, you guys. And All of you guys getting married.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:47]:
I'm working on stuff as we speak, business cards being printed, retractable vinyl side being done. What? You know, you gotta have the retractable horizontal sign that everybody has.
Tiff [00:05:02]:
Oh, the sign. I mean,
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:03]:
the vertical. I'm sorry. The vertical.
Tiff [00:05:05]:
Yeah. Vertical sign. No.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:06]:
You could have a horizontal book.
Tiff [00:05:07]:
With your logo and everything.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:08]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I have a special logo for the groomsman.
Tiff [00:05:11]:
Excellent. Good you.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:13]:
Testing out like I said, testing out vendors for gifts, little keepsakes like this.
Tiff [00:05:16]:
Very nice.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:18]:
So, gonna work on the slideshow.
Tiff [00:05:22]:
Wow.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:23]:
Yeah. Yeah.
Tiff [00:05:23]:
Yeah. That's a big deal.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:25]:
It is. It is. I'm putting with my money where my mouth is.
Tiff [00:05:28]:
Alright. Good. Well, I hope you, I wish you many successes.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:32]:
Thank you so much. Big shout out to Nicole Davis, who's the account manager for, Wedding Crashers. She's been very nice.
Tiff [00:05:38]:
And we'll talk about it again in March Just to, you know, remind everybody.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:41]:
Yep. Yep.
Tiff [00:05:42]:
Alright. Moving on. One of the things that we like to do at the top of the show is, talk about, current events.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:49]:
Yes.
Tiff [00:05:50]:
Or little articles?
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:51]:
Yes.
Tiff [00:05:52]:
You sent me this, really good feel good piece. Aw. Yeah. It gave me all the warm fuzzies.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:58]:
Did I do that?
Tiff [00:05:59]:
Yes. Well, you didn't. The article did.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:03]:
I passed along the fuzzies.
Tiff [00:06:05]:
Oh, it was such a great article. Oh.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:06]:
Oh my gosh. I didn't realize you would, react that strongly.
Tiff [00:06:10]:
Well, because it's a big deal. So just of it Chris Paul.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:14]:
CP 3.
Tiff [00:06:15]:
Which I had never heard of because I don't I don't watch NBA. I'm not a basketball person. But he's a basketball player. He's a professional Football player. Yes.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:24]:
He is.
Tiff [00:06:25]:
With a team called the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:27]:
Yes. Point guard.
Tiff [00:06:29]:
And, he
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:30]:
point guard.
Tiff [00:06:31]:
He, did a most Fabulous thing.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:35]:
Yes. He did.
Tiff [00:06:35]:
He bought his entire team, the roster, the entire roster, bespoke suits. Did you hear me?
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:45]:
Oh, yes.
Tiff [00:06:45]:
Bespoke suit for every teammate.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:49]:
Yes. I know.
Tiff [00:06:50]:
How many teammates are there on an NBA team?
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:53]:
Usually, what, 14 on a roster.
Tiff [00:06:56]:
14. That's a lot of suits. That's a lot of bespoke suits.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:59]:
That's a lot of cabbage being spent.
Tiff [00:07:02]:
Yes. And he bought he
Reginald Ferguson [00:07:04]:
But he can afford it.
Tiff [00:07:06]:
Well, I guess so being an NBA player. But I just I was like, Wow. What would possess this guy to do that? And I read a little further. And, It turns out that, teammates normally buy things for fellow teammates.
Reginald Ferguson [00:07:22]:
But I don't think at this level. There is an exception, but I'm I'm gonna let you do your thing before I chime in.
Tiff [00:07:26]:
Oh, you don't Let me do No.
Reginald Ferguson [00:07:28]:
No. No. No. No. Because I'm curious because you really you really are excited about this piece. So I I want you to get your moment fuzzies out and everything.
Tiff [00:07:34]:
Yeah. But, he, yeah, he said in the past, he's given stuff like headphones and and, things like that.
Reginald Ferguson [00:07:41]:
Yeah. But that's not this.
Tiff [00:07:42]:
That is not this. And the article continued to say he got his inspiration, when he was on the Olympic Basketball team.
Reginald Ferguson [00:07:54]:
Yes.
Tiff [00:07:55]:
Being coached by Duke's 1 and only, Mike. I'm a Duke fan. Doot. Doot. Doot.
Reginald Ferguson [00:08:01]:
You're a North Carolinian.
Tiff [00:08:03]:
I am. And, apparently, coach Risinski rolls out of TV, and he shows them, The, a video from YouTube of Marvin Gaye singing the national anthem. And it so inspired him
Reginald Ferguson [00:08:19]:
LA.
Tiff [00:08:20]:
To, it so inspired him so much that he showed this he was having a game night at his house, to his fellow basketball teammates, And his stylist was there.
Reginald Ferguson [00:08:29]:
CP threes?
Tiff [00:08:30]:
Yeah.
Reginald Ferguson [00:08:30]:
Yeah. Not Przysevski's.
Tiff [00:08:32]:
Not Przysevski's. Yeah. Przysevski was The the Olympic story. Anyway, the first the the fact of the matter that he has a stylist, that was pretty what?
Reginald Ferguson [00:08:41]:
All these ballers do, I gotta try to Crack into that. Unbelievable.
Tiff [00:08:45]:
I was just blown away. But, anyway, you know, he was talking about the song and how he was inspired when he was on the Olympic team, and the whole Olympic team was Fired, and they wanted to play this song after they won the, the Olympics. His stylist, she was like, wow. Look at that 3 piece suit he's wearing.
Reginald Ferguson [00:09:03]:
I remember that all star game.
Tiff [00:09:04]:
And from there, came the idea of, wait. Wouldn't it be nice if we all rocked a 3 piece suit coming into the game 1 night? And, and then from there, he was like, wait. I wanna get everybody a 3 piece suit. Between him and his stylist, they made it happen, which I think is insane. Insane.
Reginald Ferguson [00:09:28]:
Yeah.
Tiff [00:09:29]:
It's like it's a tremendous gift. Absolutely. He said some of the players were crying, and they were trying on and getting fitted. They were just all crying and tearing up. 1 player, the youngest one on the squad, was running around modeling his his new suit and Showing it off, and and the designer was there. And he was like, clearly, that is the 1st bespoke suit that kid has ever had on in his life. And it's true. I mean, he was 18 he's 18 yet, 19 years old.
Tiff [00:09:54]:
I can't remember from the article, but he was young.
Reginald Ferguson [00:09:56]:
Right. Teenage.
Tiff [00:09:57]:
Young and in the NBA.
Reginald Ferguson [00:09:59]:
With Oodles of time and money to burn.
Tiff [00:10:02]:
Yep.
Reginald Ferguson [00:10:03]:
Could be dangerous.
Tiff [00:10:04]:
Yep. Absolutely. But Chris Paul is like a he's like a mentor.
Reginald Ferguson [00:10:08]:
Absolutely.
Tiff [00:10:09]:
And he used it as a teaching moment. He said that he likes to take these young ones under his wing and show them the way, you because they come into the NBA, and they got all this money. And and, you know, one thing he noted was all of us out here see these players, and we think, oh, they got it. They got all that money. They got all that they got they they're just big time, and and and they they're the shit. But, you know, From a 20 year old or 19 year old coming into this big thing and all this stuff is coming down on you, you you it's a little scary. Sure. So I was just I don't know.
Tiff [00:10:42]:
I thought it was like, oh, it's big brother. It's, warm and fuzzy. It's caring. It's kind. It's a freaking bespoke soup gift. Anyhoo.
Reginald Ferguson [00:10:56]:
It is serious. But I real I wanna give CP 3 AKA Chris Paul, mad props for this. First of all, as I said to you earlier, Tiff, he's not the 1st player to do this, not even in recent memory.
Tiff [00:11:10]:
Really?
Reginald Ferguson [00:11:10]:
That would be LeBron.
Tiff [00:11:12]:
Oh, I did read that LeBron had done something similar or they all
Reginald Ferguson [00:11:15]:
Something similar.
Tiff [00:11:17]:
Yeah. He didn't buy them all suits though.
Reginald Ferguson [00:11:18]:
Well, he did.
Tiff [00:11:19]:
Oh, he did?
Reginald Ferguson [00:11:20]:
But let me explain to me The chasm of a difference.
Tiff [00:11:24]:
Okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:11:26]:
He kitted his Cleveland Cavaliers in Tom Brown.
Tiff [00:11:31]:
Tom Brown is a designer. I guess you don't care for Tom Brown.
Reginald Ferguson [00:11:36]:
No. Because it's a very distinct Style.
Tiff [00:11:39]:
Okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:11:39]:
And he did it during the playoffs in, 2018. But what CP 3 did much better than that, Because Tom Brown, wah wah. That's a real distinct look. And with short pants and the average NBA height is 67. It looks it looks ridiculous. Really short. It looks ridiculous. See LeBron and the whole team, it looked I'm sorry.
Reginald Ferguson [00:12:04]:
No one no one is man enough to go. He looked like a goof. I remember that. He looked like an idiot.
Tiff [00:12:09]:
So he had on high waters?
Reginald Ferguson [00:12:10]:
Yes.
Tiff [00:12:11]:
We all know how you feel about high waters
Reginald Ferguson [00:12:13]:
Yes.
Tiff [00:12:14]:
From prior episode.
Reginald Ferguson [00:12:15]:
And Thom Browne is the king of high waters.
Tiff [00:12:18]:
Oh, okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:12:18]:
So it's a very distinct look and taste. And for guys that are generally big and strapping
Tiff [00:12:28]:
Right. It's not a good look. It didn't really play.
Reginald Ferguson [00:12:31]:
No. No. So that's one big difference. Chris Paul went with Davison Ferrer.
Tiff [00:12:37]:
Okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:12:37]:
Does that name sound familiar?
Tiff [00:12:40]:
It kinda did, but I couldn't place why it sounded familiar.
Reginald Ferguson [00:12:43]:
Formerly of Musica Ferrer. Oh. Yep. Why did they break up?
Tiff [00:12:50]:
Oh. I think I got the
Reginald Ferguson [00:12:51]:
scoop. Yeah.
Tiff [00:12:52]:
I knew I recognized that name.
Reginald Ferguson [00:12:54]:
I work with them when I launched my brand, when we had the fashion show
Tiff [00:13:00]:
Okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:13:00]:
At Keller Williams. Wow. I was dealing with Musica Ferrer.
Tiff [00:13:04]:
Six Degrees of Separation right there.
Reginald Ferguson [00:13:06]:
But he I mean, they're both doing well. I'm still sad, and I never got the scoop. But he's got every baller on lock.
Tiff [00:13:15]:
Does he really?
Reginald Ferguson [00:13:16]:
Jigga, Steph. His is a much better look. I know I'm biased because, you know, when they collab, so I know that brand. But And also LeBron made everyone wear the same freaking thing as him.
Tiff [00:13:31]:
Oh.
Reginald Ferguson [00:13:32]:
Yeah. Yeah. Suit, white shirt, black tie, Cardigan. You know, Tom Brown with the wet, white, red, white, and blue. Pardon me. Some big bag that
Tiff [00:13:42]:
They were all wet.
Reginald Ferguson [00:13:42]:
They were yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They were carbon copies. No. At least Chris Paul had the presence of mind to let his teammates pick out whatever they wanted.
Tiff [00:13:50]:
Oh, it looks so nice.
Reginald Ferguson [00:13:52]:
No clones. No. Individuals.
Tiff [00:13:54]:
Absolutely.
Reginald Ferguson [00:13:55]:
I think another reason that this act, as you called, is so impressive is that Chris Paul got traded to the Thunder by the Rockets. And it was naturally assumed he was being sent off to Basketball in Siberia.
Tiff [00:14:07]:
Oh. Yeah. Yeah. So Oklahoma Thunder is not
Reginald Ferguson [00:14:10]:
The team has really been reconstituted, and People were saying Chris Paul was on the decline. Okay. So the opposite has turned out to be true. I mean, the team is doing well. They're competitive. They're 3rd place in the northwest division. I think, to your point, this is an incredible act of largess, And it has a lot to do with this with this generosity.
Tiff [00:14:38]:
Team building. Yes. That's why they're so successful now. Absolutely. Absolutely. He he created a bond between all of them, and it just a bond with fabric. See what I did there?
Reginald Ferguson [00:14:50]:
Yeah.
Tiff [00:14:50]:
Yeah. Yeah.
Reginald Ferguson [00:14:51]:
That was pretty clever.
Tiff [00:14:52]:
Fabric Bond.
Reginald Ferguson [00:14:53]:
He's a real leader in fashion and on the court.
Tiff [00:14:56]:
Well, let's mention this article. We got this article Jeep. From gq.com in the style section. And just go look up Chris Paul custom suits for the entire Oklahoma City Thunder, and just look at the pictures. The man, the designer hit it out the park.
Reginald Ferguson [00:15:16]:
Oh, yeah. His stuff is fly.
Tiff [00:15:17]:
Again, you
Reginald Ferguson [00:15:18]:
can use it for air.
Tiff [00:15:18]:
But I have to say that he didn't do it alone Because another interesting unique thing that happened was, the designer, along with the stylist, they brought several different choices of fabrics, of style, of design, and they sat down with each individual player and went through the choices. And then so the player Had a part in designing his own look.
Reginald Ferguson [00:15:41]:
Yes. Because I'm saying individuals.
Tiff [00:15:43]:
And that's why they all are I mean, if you it's just and everyone is stunning, But it's all individual because it's themselves. They've expressed themselves in designing their own bespoke suit, and I just thought that was terrific. What's that?
Reginald Ferguson [00:16:00]:
Express yourself.
Tiff [00:16:03]:
I didn't hear that. I'm sorry.
Reginald Ferguson [00:16:04]:
That's okay. Anybody. Listeners do.
Tiff [00:16:06]:
That was a feel good story.
Reginald Ferguson [00:16:08]:
I'm glad you feel good.
Tiff [00:16:09]:
And we had to we had to share it with everyone so we can all feel some warm fuzzies.
Reginald Ferguson [00:16:13]:
Okay.
Tiff [00:16:13]:
Wouldn't it be nice if the world was like that? A whole entire world?
Reginald Ferguson [00:16:17]:
No. Well yeah. But no. So let's go Let's go to the other side of it. Fashion Fools. Fashion Fools.
Tiff [00:16:34]:
Fashion Fools.
Reginald Ferguson [00:16:36]:
Yep. I love this thing. The Other Side of the Wall and Fuzzy.
Tiff [00:16:39]:
This is one of my favorite segments because, my boy, Reg, over here, he just, he loses it. What? Come on, Reg. Tell us what, what's foolish happening in the world of fashion today?
Reginald Ferguson [00:16:52]:
Guys getting ganked by buying fake sneakers. What? Oh, gosh. We're talking about sneakers again. Sorry, Tiff. You didn't hear that.
Tiff [00:16:59]:
Sneakers upon sneakers upon sneakers. But what does gank mean?
Reginald Ferguson [00:17:05]:
Getting done. Get Getting hoodwinked.
Tiff [00:17:09]:
Oh, okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:17:11]:
But I real I really wanna be clear, Tiff. This is a little this is a spin on fashion fools because the fools aren't the guys getting duped.
Tiff [00:17:20]:
No. It's the same no.
Reginald Ferguson [00:17:22]:
Of course not. That's my point. I wanna be clear. I'm not I'm not riding on them. It's the counterfeit market that's making fools of everybody. This is a $450,000,000,000 business.
Tiff [00:17:34]:
What?
Reginald Ferguson [00:17:35]:
Yeah. I know.
Tiff [00:17:36]:
Where'd you get that figure from?
Reginald Ferguson [00:17:38]:
I forgot what source. I'm sorry. But
Tiff [00:17:40]:
Good lord. Yes. 450,000,000,000 dollars?
Reginald Ferguson [00:17:43]:
50. Yeah. So the point is, How would you know if you had fake kicks?
Tiff [00:17:50]:
Yeah. Exactly. My question. Exactly. You read my mind.
Reginald Ferguson [00:17:53]:
I try. Back in the day, I think it was very easy to detect. Like, when I was growing up, like like, a letter would be misspelled or the logo would be off. Like, back in the day, like, in the eighties and the Yeah. You could I think it was more distinct.
Tiff [00:18:08]:
Like with the Gucci purchase or the Louis Vuitton purses.
Reginald Ferguson [00:18:11]:
I don't think you could really tell.
Tiff [00:18:12]:
Yeah. Well, if the if the logo is Sewn. If the seam cuts the logo off, it's fake because the the real thing, you the logo does not bleed into the seam Oh, I
Reginald Ferguson [00:18:23]:
didn't know.
Tiff [00:18:23]:
Back in the day. Oh. So I don't know if that's still true now, but that's how you were that's the only way you could spot a fake purse. But go ahead.
Reginald Ferguson [00:18:30]:
But the technology, I think, whether we're talking about bags, whether we're talking about sneakers.
Tiff [00:18:34]:
They probably fixed that.
Reginald Ferguson [00:18:35]:
This is so right. This is so it's so advanced. So people I mean, again, how did I wouldn't claim to know. Like, we know we tease about my 13 pair. They're all not a sneakerhead. Got all good deals. I believe that all my sneakers are real. But I'll tell you one way, that you can find out.
Tiff [00:18:55]:
How?
Reginald Ferguson [00:18:56]:
If you deal with, which I did once, goat. If you if you roll with goat, they have a certification process.
Tiff [00:19:06]:
Oh, I see. When you're buying from the resale market.
Reginald Ferguson [00:19:08]:
Yes. Okay. Yeah. And I'm down with GOAT.
Tiff [00:19:10]:
I like GOAT. AT.
Reginald Ferguson [00:19:11]:
Greatest of all time. So they have a certification process, and they're using machine learning in their process. Oh. Because they have so many sneakers going through their marketplace, They acquire data points
Tiff [00:19:24]:
Okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:19:25]:
Which helps them determine what is real and what is fake, and it usually ties into the thickness of the sole, Points of the Leather. I mean, it's obviously, it's very detailed. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And Nike's, by the way, is the single most counterfeited brand
Tiff [00:19:43]:
I am not surprised. In
Reginald Ferguson [00:19:43]:
sneaker world.
Tiff [00:19:44]:
Not surprised at all. So this is like the certified pre owned sneaker world.
Reginald Ferguson [00:19:48]:
Exactly. A matter of fact, one of the owners, one of the creators of GOAT, that's why he did it because I think it was when him and when his college buddies, one or the other, They got ganked by, like, buying, like, a $4,000 pair of sneakers that weren't real.
Tiff [00:20:04]:
Ugh. How did he find out they weren't real?
Reginald Ferguson [00:20:05]:
I can't remember how, but that's that was the impetus for them creating this business.
Tiff [00:20:09]:
I mean, that's a concern of mine buying any kind of name brand thing. I mean, unless you go to a reputable,
Reginald Ferguson [00:20:14]:
store, retailer. Right.
Tiff [00:20:17]:
And who knows if the retailers really got the real thing? I mean, these days, there's some shady fellas in the retail world, Fellas and and and ladies possibly too who are, you know, looking for that good deal and maybe buying unbeknownst to them or maybe unbeknownst to them The not real deal. I mean, I it they're getting so clever, especially with, like you said, the technology today That even I think even the people who are tasked with policing this counterfeit market are probably having a difficult time staying on top of it.
Reginald Ferguson [00:20:54]:
Well, sometimes, this stuff is coming out of the same factory. It's just one gets the real deal stamp, and the other is fugazi.
Tiff [00:21:03]:
So Yeah. What is that?
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:06]:
It's fugazi.
Tiff [00:21:07]:
What's fugazi?
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:09]:
It's not real.
Tiff [00:21:10]:
Oh, I never heard that word before.
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:11]:
I could tell. It's a twofer.
Tiff [00:21:13]:
Oh, I gotta look that up.
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:16]:
Good luck.
Tiff [00:21:18]:
Always learning, Reg. You're always teaching me something.
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:21]:
I try.
Tiff [00:21:23]:
Alright. Well, we didn't sort of solve any problems here as far as the counterfeit market goes?
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:27]:
All my sneakers are real.
Tiff [00:21:30]:
My 1 pair of Nikes are definitely real.
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:32]:
I have not spent Gs on sneakers. I've spent sub $100 in each and every pair.
Tiff [00:21:38]:
I have never spent more than $100 on my sneakers.
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:40]:
We have that in common.
Tiff [00:21:41]:
Yes. Go to Foot Locker. That's where I go. They always have something for me. Alright, Reg. Let's move on.
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:56]:
I must have it if it's not counterfeit. I must watch. Right? I
Tiff [00:22:10]:
I was gonna ask you. Are you ready to to to let us all know what you must have?
Reginald Ferguson [00:22:15]:
Yes. I'd like to have a real Charvet tie.
Tiff [00:22:20]:
Charvet tie, but not just any Charvet tie. You wanna buy your Charvet tie
Reginald Ferguson [00:22:26]:
In Paris.
Tiff [00:22:27]:
Yeah. So, Reg Yes. Why do you wanna buy your Charvetai in Paris?
Reginald Ferguson [00:22:34]:
Well, Tiff, that's kind of the person I am. I'm all about well, I got it at the indigenous spot. So, like, when I first had Cuban cigars, I had them in Havana. Oh. So that's
Tiff [00:22:46]:
just you gotta travel. You gotta go to Paris.
Reginald Ferguson [00:22:48]:
Yes. Yes. Yes. I understand. I've been to France, and I've been to Paris.
Tiff [00:22:51]:
Packing my bags tomorrow.
Reginald Ferguson [00:22:53]:
When I was a kid learning about fashion, as much as I was learning about American indigenous brands, I was also learning about overseas brands, especially European. I love ties, and I have the tie rack to prove it. You No. My grandpa told me how to tie tie.
Tiff [00:23:07]:
You got a nice tie on right now.
Reginald Ferguson [00:23:09]:
Oh, thank you. Thank you very much. I did that for, the kid for the
Tiff [00:23:12]:
Did you? Is it a throwback?
Reginald Ferguson [00:23:13]:
No. Well, It's a narrow cut that I figured
Tiff [00:23:16]:
he's definitely narrow.
Reginald Ferguson [00:23:17]:
Right. But he he he got me because he had a bow tie on. Yeah. Thought you're selling bean pies.
Tiff [00:23:24]:
He You looked great.
Reginald Ferguson [00:23:25]:
So you did.
Tiff [00:23:25]:
You sure? That's our guest.
Reginald Ferguson [00:23:27]:
Elbow patched with the blazer. Oh. Broke you down with the throat latch.
Tiff [00:23:30]:
Yep. Smoking.
Reginald Ferguson [00:23:32]:
And made it through school live. Yep. So that's impressive in high school. But, anyway, I always thought it'd be cool to go to a spot and pick up my gear from there. And that's how I feel about Charvet. I would I would see it in GQ. I'd read about it. I just thought it was the coolest thing.
Reginald Ferguson [00:23:48]:
I don't claim to know a lot about the brand. I know it's one of those OG e brands in France. I just wanted to, like, roll up and be like, let me get a Chauvet cravat.
Tiff [00:23:58]:
Oh. You know, Speaking of cravats, you can't find them. Well, I couldn't find them. Looking for them for, my New Year's Eve party. We were looking for a cravat. And, everybody was telling she gotta go to London for that or Paris. So that's a little side note.
Reginald Ferguson [00:24:12]:
That's Did not know that.
Tiff [00:24:14]:
So, So a Charvetai, in my research, is is somewhere up there with Hermes.
Reginald Ferguson [00:24:20]:
Yeah. And it's Yeah. They're they're
Tiff [00:24:21]:
Pretty small.
Reginald Ferguson [00:24:22]:
Yeah. They're the oldest You know, I don't know the true provenance, but
Tiff [00:24:26]:
Well,
Reginald Ferguson [00:24:26]:
this the chronology. But they're they're up there. They're I don't know if they're neck and neck, but they're very old Fashion houses.
Tiff [00:24:32]:
They may yeah. The fashion house, that created the Charvet tie, was established in 18/38.
Reginald Ferguson [00:24:40]:
Holy cow.
Tiff [00:24:41]:
Yeah. Like, 18/38. It was a a a a shirting store, you know, but they also did ties. And, the owner was mister Joseph Christophe Charvet. And, He he opened the world's very first short, shirt shop. Say that to me.
Reginald Ferguson [00:25:01]:
He did.
Tiff [00:25:02]:
In Paris. And, he became renowned for his exceptionally well made men's shirts and ties, and his international reputation grew. His customers, because of his illustrious customers, which included royalty and presidents. Bill Clinton had a Charvet tie. He's one of the ones the names that I that Kinda stuck in my brain. And, the thing about the Charvet tie, it's made in a very specific way. It's actually a Charvet fabric. There's it's made from a fabric.
Tiff [00:25:32]:
It's some Charvet. And the definition what is Charvet? A Charvet fabric is woven of silk or acetate. By the way, a Charvet tie is always silk. In raw in warp faced rib weave of a reversed reps type with a double ridge effect.
Reginald Ferguson [00:25:51]:
Yipes.
Tiff [00:25:53]:
The fabric's name derives from its frequent and clever use in the 19th century by the Parisian shirtmaker, Charvet. It is characterized by a soft handle and shiny appearance. It also drapes well, which you want a tie that drapes well
Reginald Ferguson [00:26:07]:
Yes.
Tiff [00:26:08]:
Because that's what ties do.
Reginald Ferguson [00:26:09]:
They drape. Jinx.
Tiff [00:26:13]:
So a little piece of, information for you about your Charvet. Do you know that the store, so you wanna go there. So the the address is 28 Place Vendome in Paris. Oh. Right around the corner from the reds.
Reginald Ferguson [00:26:27]:
Place Vendome. Yeah. That's the place. I was trying to
Tiff [00:26:31]:
work my French. You know?
Reginald Ferguson [00:26:32]:
No. No. No. Go ahead, please.
Tiff [00:26:34]:
I took 3 years. You you know, I Was really making sure I could say it correctly.
Reginald Ferguson [00:26:38]:
No. No.
Tiff [00:26:39]:
But I, I can't wait till you go and you get one.
Reginald Ferguson [00:26:43]:
Well, let's just
Tiff [00:26:44]:
will cost almost as much as the flight.
Reginald Ferguson [00:26:50]:
Better better store my shelves.
Tiff [00:26:52]:
Yes. Yes. So is there any other reason you besides wanting to go there and get the Charvet because it's just OG.
Reginald Ferguson [00:27:00]:
It was just it was just interesting growing up, just, you know, reading about these things
Tiff [00:27:04]:
Alright.
Reginald Ferguson [00:27:05]:
About places far away.
Tiff [00:27:06]:
They were beautiful in the pictures I saw. But, you know, you don't have to go to Paris. You can also, you know, find them, here stateside at Neiman Marcus, Sachs, or Burkhdorf.
Reginald Ferguson [00:27:18]:
No. I'm going to Paris.
Tiff [00:27:20]:
Alright.
Reginald Ferguson [00:27:27]:
Aurora.
Tiff [00:27:29]:
Alright. Moving on to the word of the day.
Reginald Ferguson [00:27:33]:
Fashion word of the day.
Tiff [00:27:34]:
The Fashion word of the day.
Reginald Ferguson [00:27:42]:
Fashion word of the day.
Tiff [00:27:49]:
Yep. And for all you newcomers, the section, segment I keep saying the word section It shouldn't say segment. I don't know why. It's such it's where we bring you know, because we're we're kind of sort of having a lot of little game show feeling here. We each bring a word to challenge each other with. We spell it, define it, and use it in a sentence if we get it right. So, Reg
Reginald Ferguson [00:28:08]:
Yes.
Tiff [00:28:08]:
What is your fashion word for me today?
Reginald Ferguson [00:28:12]:
Collar gap. Collar gap. Yep.
Tiff [00:28:16]:
I'm very familiar with color gap because I think I brought that word to the table, for the prior episode. Oh.
Reginald Ferguson [00:28:28]:
That's right. You brought it up as a topic.
Tiff [00:28:30]:
I did. Word. I didn't I
Reginald Ferguson [00:28:31]:
didn't mess it like you did.
Tiff [00:28:33]:
Oh. But Really?
Reginald Ferguson [00:28:34]:
No. No. Yeah. You didn't you it wasn't
Tiff [00:28:35]:
Oh, okay. Well No.
Reginald Ferguson [00:28:36]:
No. No. You brought it up as a Well,
Tiff [00:28:37]:
I'll spell it. C o l l a r. It's a compound word. Gap, g a p, collar gap. And the collar gap is something that you do not want. You don't want that space between your shirt collar and your jacket collar. That means your jacket doesn't fit, guys.
Reginald Ferguson [00:28:55]:
Kaboom. Kaboom.
Tiff [00:28:57]:
Do I get a ring, ring, ring? Absolutely. Yeah. I yeah. We talked about that. Yes. Yeah. Very along with balance And how you know, those 2 things are really important when you're getting your your suit made, your jacket part of your suit made. Very good, Rich.
Tiff [00:29:12]:
Bringing it back. It's okay. Repetition. That's how people learn.
Reginald Ferguson [00:29:16]:
There's joy in repetition.
Tiff [00:29:17]:
Alright. So I'm gonna bring I'm I'm bringing, a word to you that, It's gonna be a toughie.
Reginald Ferguson [00:29:23]:
Oh, great.
Tiff [00:29:24]:
Yeah. It's an Italian word.
Reginald Ferguson [00:29:26]:
Oh, great.
Tiff [00:29:27]:

Reginald Ferguson [00:29:29]:
Oh, well, that's that's a star. Oh. Oh.
Tiff [00:29:31]:
Oh, goodness. Right. Bennett.
Reginald Ferguson [00:29:35]:
Woah. Let Let me spell that out here. Let me write that out.
Tiff [00:29:39]:
Spresatura. Spresatura. Oh,
Reginald Ferguson [00:29:43]:
I got it. The spelling should be s p r e z z a t u r a.
Tiff [00:29:52]:
Wow.
Reginald Ferguson [00:29:53]:
Phonetics.
Tiff [00:29:54]:
I thought for sure I was gonna stump you. Not the spelling. Okay. Well, we still have to come up with a definition.
Reginald Ferguson [00:29:59]:
Yes. It's it's It's the style and manner of dressing well effortlessly, and it actually goes beyond clothing.
Tiff [00:30:08]:
Boom. Well done. Well done. Well done. I kinda had a feeling you might not have an issue with this because of your love for. Is that how you say it? Yeah.
Reginald Ferguson [00:30:19]:
