Reginald Ferguson [00:01:37]:
I did not realize it.
Tiff [00:01:38]:
Yeah. We you know, it started over drinks. Martinis. 2 for 1 martinis at our favorite favorite spot in Manhattan.
Reginald Ferguson [00:01:45]:
Yes. That's true.
Tiff [00:01:46]:
And, yeah. It's coming on almost a year when we started talking about doing this, so it's significant. Oh,
Reginald Ferguson [00:01:51]:
Oh, well, I I I appreciate that. So haven't seen in a while. It was a nice sunny day here at our studio.
Tiff [00:02:00]:
Oh, yes. And And we're recording during the day, which doesn't happen often.
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:03]:
Generally, it's a nocturnal podcast.
Tiff [00:02:06]:
Yes. But the problem is this job of mine.
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:10]:
It's not a problem to have a job.
Tiff [00:02:12]:
Not a problem to have a job at all. And I don't wanna seem ungrateful.
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:17]:
Exactly.
Tiff [00:02:18]:
And it's a lot of work. It started off as part time
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:21]:
Right.
Tiff [00:02:21]:
3 days a week. Now they've shifted me up to 4 days a week, And it's daytime. You know, I used to be you know, I used to run businesses in the evening, bars and restaurants for 22 years. I never got up before noon. And I tell you, I I I love the work. The work is great. I'm working for a not for profit, and we're working on a big gala event. Nice.
Tiff [00:02:40]:
And, and that's great. It's just Mornings. Getting up in the mornings. I I 7 o'clock in the morning is hard. Really? I know I have I'm, like, I'm Speaking on deaf ear. You guys, I know y'all have been doing it for years.
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:56]:
Yeah. Even if I'm doing nothing.
Tiff [00:02:58]:
Right?
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:59]:
For at
Reginald Ferguson [00:02:59]:
least the weekday.
Tiff [00:03:00]:
There is beauty in the mornings. Yeah. There really is. Interrupt.
Reginald Ferguson [00:03:04]:
You gotta you gotta get stuff done.
Tiff [00:03:05]:
Yes. That's true. But by the end of the day, after work and I work I don't even I eat lunch at my desk. I don't really take time off during the day. I'm I'm working I'm working 8, 9, 10 hours a day on this job. And I get home and, you know, normally, we rerecord after work
Reginald Ferguson [00:03:21]:
Sure.
Tiff [00:03:21]:
During the during the week. And I just this week, I was I'm dying. I can't. I can't. So here we are on a lovely Saturday afternoon after I got to sleep in, And I've had 4 espressos, so I'm ready to go.
Reginald Ferguson [00:03:35]:
God. Yeah. That makes so much sense now just watching you.
Tiff [00:03:40]:
Yes. And I caught up on all your Instagrams. You Reg likes to send me little Instagram posts of things that he finds interesting fashion wise. And one of them, I was like he asked me if I wanted to go to an event.
Reginald Ferguson [00:03:51]:
We should. Well, it It's like a stand in
Tiff [00:03:55]:
It's a temporary residency. Yes. Louis Vuitton's men's New York, temporary residency at Krome Hearts on Washington.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:02]:
Yes. With the man
Tiff [00:04:04]:
With the man.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:05]:
Virgil Abloh.
Tiff [00:04:06]:
And, it started January 10th for a limited time, and I love how they say limited time. What does that mean?
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:12]:
That means that
Tiff [00:04:12]:
we till they sell out? Or they
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:14]:
need to get there.
Tiff [00:04:15]:
I know you want me to I
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:16]:
mean, if you don't, that's fine. I'll I'll go Dolo. But
Tiff [00:04:19]:
I looked at Doho.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:21]:
Dolo.
Tiff [00:04:22]:
Dolo.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:22]:
Going for Dolo.
Tiff [00:04:23]:
Alright.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:24]:
If I do not go with you
Tiff [00:04:26]:
You're gonna?
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:27]:
Go by myself.
Tiff [00:04:28]:
K. I could put Clear that up for some of our listeners too. Because my
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:32]:
producer nodded his head and he said he understood exactly what I was talking about.
Tiff [00:04:37]:
I looked at this Instagram post, and I found that Fly is very interesting because the first thing I said when I look at this, and I go, you know, we do a podcast for fashion for the everyday man, and this is Louis Vuitton.
Reginald Ferguson [00:04:48]:
LV.
Tiff [00:04:49]:
And this is, Virgil Abloh designing for Louis Vuitton. I mean, this is high end stuff. How is this for the everyday man? How do you how do you decide that?
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:01]:
Sure. Everything is left up to subjectivity. So it really is about my client And what he's about, what his interests are, and more importantly, what his budget is. So I mean, let's just go back and understand the history of Louis Vuitton. We're talking about steamer trunks, Luggage, bags.
Tiff [00:05:31]:
Practical stuff.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:32]:
Exactly.
Tiff [00:05:33]:
That people need it.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:34]:
Well heeled for the well heeled traveler.
Tiff [00:05:36]:
On on
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:36]:
Not for the proletariat.
Tiff [00:05:38]:
No. On trains and, ships.
Reginald Ferguson [00:05:40]:
Exactly. So now we fast forward in in that epic of time Between then and now, obviously, bags, luggage, still extremely important. But gear has been a a mainstay for the brand for quite a while. I'm just really impressed with the ascendency Of mister Hublot. Mhmm. I mean, this just from an African American standpoint Right. This is just it's powerful. I mean, I'm getting goosebumps.
Tiff [00:06:07]:
Another great collaboration between a big brand big brand house, and an African American designer.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:14]:
He has a he has a great vision, and I'm really curious about seeing it. So But to not straight from the point, if an individual has an interest in a budget, Then Louis v is gonna be for that particular client. I I don't I don't envision it to be incongruous to everything that we've talked about Episode wise.
Tiff [00:06:36]:
Okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:36]:
Not at all.
Tiff [00:06:38]:
One of the comments was, they heard that you couldn't get upstairs unless you had a 30 k budget for a chair. I thought that was hysterical. Really? Yeah. So we can go, but you're gonna need an appointment if you wanna go up the stage.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:52]:
I just Big shout out to Man Your Style. He's gonna he's gonna grace us one day.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:59]:
Woo hoo.
Reginald Ferguson [00:06:59]:
I saw him I saw him on his On his feed on Insta, and that really struck my interest. I even just wanna go down Fifth Avenue and see the Louis v store just to see These incredible graphics.
Reginald Ferguson [00:07:13]:
Just Right.
Reginald Ferguson [00:07:14]:
Just everything. So I follow Virgil on Insta, and And I've seen a little bit of behind the scenes. So I'm just really I'm just really curious.
Tiff [00:07:23]:
Okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:07:24]:
Eager, eager, and curious. But Let's not get this twisted. All these high end names that were that well, the high end names I'm going to utter, Whether it's Louis Vuitton, whether it's Tom Ford, whether it's Hermes, All these can be incorporated in the everyday man's deeds.
Tiff [00:07:44]:
Absolutely. Because you know how to find it at an affordable price.
Reginald Ferguson [00:07:50]:
Yes.
Tiff [00:07:50]:
That's part of your skill. Part of your
Reginald Ferguson [00:07:52]:
skill. All the time. Yes. It is. And I appreciate that. But it's just about What do you want to accomplish? That's why I would say it's a consultancy. Mhmm. So what are your goals in your look? And if you always wanted to have a Louis Vuitton messenger bag, then that's gonna be part of your sneeze, and that's gonna become your everyday.
Reginald Ferguson [00:08:17]:
So
Tiff [00:08:17]:
Alright. There we go. We have an expanded, definition of the everyday man. Very nice. Thanks, Reg.
Reginald Ferguson [00:08:24]:
You're welcome.
Tiff [00:08:25]:
Alright. So are we ready to hop into our surprise for the episode?
Reginald Ferguson [00:08:32]:
Yes. Why not? Why not? No. I'm just like we've been working on this, working on this, wondering when we were ready to do this. And We're ready.
Tiff [00:08:43]:
And now we're ready. Alright. So, our our fashion hero section is being preempted today by our So what do you do, insert?
Reginald Ferguson [00:08:53]:
So what do you do? But But to be clear, This is our very first phone in guest.
Tiff [00:09:02]:
Yes.
Reginald Ferguson [00:09:02]:
Not live, face to face. We're doing it through this technology thing.
Tiff [00:09:07]:
Which is so cool, so new. And,
Reginald Ferguson [00:09:10]:
I don't think it's new, Tiff.
Reginald Ferguson [00:09:12]:
Well Don't
Reginald Ferguson [00:09:13]:
don't play us out. Us.
Reginald Ferguson [00:09:14]:
Please. No.
Reginald Ferguson [00:09:14]:
No. No. Don't play us out here. I've had many a call from a person. It's just about us doing it for the podcast.
Tiff [00:09:21]:
Correct. Well, it's new to me.
Reginald Ferguson [00:09:23]:
Okay. Let's Please, don't play us out. Okay. We must remain relevant. Alright. We will be. Virgil blowout like, please.
Tiff [00:09:30]:
Well, listen. We can be relevant by, you know, going old school and then going new school and combining the 2. And and boom, we we are current and we are, reminiscent.
Reginald Ferguson [00:09:43]:
Alright. Let's dial this boy in.
Tiff [00:10:02]:
Our guest today is Taye Awolabi. Did I pronounce that right, Taye?
Speaker D [00:10:08]:
Yeah. I mean, I'm Nigerian, so, like, the real pronunciation of my name is Tay yay. But, I mean, everybody calls me Tay, so that's just what that's what stuck is Tay. But.
Tiff [00:10:18]:
Alright. And the last name? Did I did I mess that up? Or
Speaker D [00:10:22]:
Owolibi. Owolibi.
Tiff [00:10:23]:
Owolibi. I put the emphasis on the wrong salable. Alright. Oh, do that what's the last name again?
Reginald Ferguson [00:10:34]:
O'Wallaby. O'Wallaby. Yeah. Brother just came in right smooth, did it, Tayo. That's all I'm saying.
Reginald Ferguson [00:10:39]:
Yeah. And
Tiff [00:10:41]:
you are the chief executive officer and public relations manager of the brand, The Lucky Ones.
Speaker D [00:10:47]:
Yes. Yes, I am. Alright.
Tiff [00:10:49]:
And this brand launched in, March March of 2015. Is that correct?
Speaker D [00:10:53]:
Yes. It did. Yes. It did. March 2015.
Tiff [00:10:56]:
Awesome. Well, tell us a little bit about yourself. Wow. Who are you?
Speaker D [00:11:01]:
Yeah. I'm kinda Wallaby. You know, I'm, 25 years old. I'm a twin I have a twin sister.
Tiff [00:11:07]:
Wow. 25?
Speaker D [00:11:09]:
Yeah. 25 years old. Yeah. I'll be 26 in March, so Yep.
Tiff [00:11:13]:
You've done a lot.
Speaker D [00:11:15]:
Yeah. Yeah. Just try to be consistent and and grow in any way I can. You know, one thing that's very peculiar about me is I am a Christian, so I do believe in God. I believe in Jesus.
Tiff [00:11:25]:
Right. I saw that all over your A gram for sure.
Speaker D [00:11:29]:
Yeah. Yeah. I'm a very faith based person. I just I just believe that God and Jesus is the is the key to to life. And, you You have to be grateful. You know, I put a post up on Facebook, the fact that you, you know, you have you have arms, that you can use your arms to to move, you have legs to walk. You know, when you go to sleep, you know, how do you wake up? It's it's not even your alarm that wakes you up. It's it's the grace of God that That allows you to wake up and go to work and do the things you need to do, you know? Money is everything, but, You know, life is more important than money.
Speaker D [00:12:01]:
And without life, which comes from God, you're nothing. So God is very important, you know?
Tiff [00:12:07]:
Okay. Now is that the the basis of, the name of your brand, your clothing brand, The Lucky Ones?
Speaker D [00:12:14]:
So the Lucky Ones' name came from, a Song of Lecrae. I don't know if you guys know who Lecrae is. Lecrae's very big. He's a Grammy nominated, Grammy winning, rap artist. He's in the he's a faith based rap artist. The owner of his record label, Reach Records. And, he has a song called The Lucky Ones. And this song, The song is about how, you know, we're all peculiar, we're unique.
Speaker D [00:12:38]:
You know, we're looked at as the light, in God's eyes and how we're, you know, we're made to be special. And, I just I was with my partners, you know, at the time when we were establishing the brand. And I said, you know what? Let's let's call this This this brand, the Lucky Ones, you know? The name is nice and has a meaning towards it, you know? We want people to know that they're They're peculiar. They're unique. You know, there's there's something different about you that makes you special in this world. So and and and you're looked at in God's eyes as beautiful, you know? So that's What what makes you a lucky one. You know?
Tiff [00:13:10]:
Right. And your brand I like the brand. Your brand has a message. You guys, your your clothing line, the whole brand.
Speaker D [00:13:18]:
Yes.
Tiff [00:13:18]:
And I love the tagline on your website. Live well, look well, feel well. That's great.
Speaker D [00:13:25]:
Yes.
Tiff [00:13:26]:
And the logo is is awesome. I I'm wearing by the way, I'm wearing your black hoodie right now.
Speaker D [00:13:31]:
Okay. Nice. Nice.
Tiff [00:13:32]:
No. Thank you for sending it. That was very kind.
Speaker D [00:13:35]:
No problem. No problem. Of course. Of course.
Tiff [00:13:38]:
It looks great. The big logo, it it pops. And it took me a minute, but I Could could see the t l and the o. I was like, oh, this is so clever the way you did it.
Speaker D [00:13:50]:
Yeah. Yeah. You gotta really look into it. It can be like a maze sometimes, But it's it's symbolic. Yeah.
Tiff [00:13:54]:
Yeah. That is true. It does look maze like. Does that refer to the maze of life, or would you say? Or, it's Am I way off base here? Am I just making stuff up?
Speaker D [00:14:08]:
In that sense, but, I mean, when when we got the logo, it really it's just how it Plus the t, the l, and the o, the initials of the name together. But it's kind of a a mysterious way how it it's all Kind of interconnected. So you really have to look at it, you know? Mhmm. And I think that's what give the logo, a kind of potential is you really have to look at it. I I talked To a kid, when I went to, my school orientation, and he said, This logo is really nice. It could be it could it's a logo I could get a tattoo of. So, you know, people really like the logo.
Tiff [00:14:37]:
Oh, wow. That does look good with the tattoo as a tattoo. It would.
Reginald Ferguson [00:14:41]:
Now, Ty, this is essentially Because it's 2019
Reginald Ferguson [00:14:46]:
Yes.
Reginald Ferguson [00:14:46]:
It essentially is the hoodies are essentially first generation of the brand. Is that correct?
Speaker D [00:14:54]:
Yeah. Yeah. You could say that. Yeah.
Reginald Ferguson [00:14:55]:
Yeah. Because it because it reads let me let me just paint a picture clearer for the listeners. So on one sleeve, You have 2015, and I'm like, okay.
Tiff [00:15:08]:
In Roman numerals.
Reginald Ferguson [00:15:09]:
Right. So
Speaker D [00:15:09]:
In o so That That symbolizes the year we started the brand. Yeah. We always be symbolic. Yeah.
Reginald Ferguson [00:15:15]:
Exactly. So my point is we this is the this is the OG hoodie for your brand, Essentially.
Speaker D [00:15:20]:
Yeah. Yeah.
Tiff [00:15:22]:
I like it. It's very thick fabric, very quality, very nice.
Speaker D [00:15:26]:
Thank you. Thank you.
Tiff [00:15:28]:
I'm getting warm up in here wearing it. Now and from this, So you guys started this is I read from your website that you guys started really, as a athletic based brand Because you wanted you had a message. You wanted to, to promote a positive lifestyle.
Speaker D [00:15:46]:
Yeah. Helping
Tiff [00:15:47]:
Helping people focus on becoming better versions of themselves through, I guess, health and fitness. Is that right? Is that why you were athletic based?
Speaker D [00:15:54]:
Yes. Yes. That's why we we started off with, athletic actually, the first The first thing we ever came out with, the athletic version, that was, like, the 1st photoshoot we did.
Reginald Ferguson [00:16:04]:
Okay.
Speaker D [00:16:05]:
But, at the time when it was when, you know, the team and I, we were We were very, we were very focused into, you know, healthy living positivity, you know? We felt like, you know, people Should live a healthy lifestyle and keep their bodies in shape and everything. So that's why the athletic, proportion of the of business came into play. But the first thing we did come out with were joggers. We did that shoot in the beach. The 4 co owners, we did a we did a little photo We're at the beach wearing, the gray joggers and the black joggers. And I think we ordered, like, 35 pairs of and those sold out in, like, two and a half weeks. So that was that was our first, like, Little breakthrough in the in the business.
Tiff [00:16:45]:
Oh, nice. Very nice.
Speaker D [00:16:46]:
Yeah.
Reginald Ferguson [00:16:47]:
You're you're based out of New England. Correct? You're in Mass right now. Correct?
Reginald Ferguson [00:16:51]:
No.
Speaker D [00:16:51]:
I'm that that's where the business is established, and that's where it came from. I'm actually right now in Texas. I moved to Texas.
Reginald Ferguson [00:16:58]:
Oh, okay.
Speaker D [00:16:59]:
Yeah. So
Tiff [00:16:59]:
So you had some nice balmy weather down there right now,
Speaker D [00:17:03]:
Yeah. Yeah. It's it's not a lot. I've I've been in Boston my whole life. So I know I know how it is. You know, like, in the world, I'm just 20, 20, 10 degrees, blizzards, you know, off and on. So I know how it is. But Here in Texas, it's it's it's, it's much different.
Speaker D [00:17:17]:
You know, you you see, like, 40 degrees weather, maybe 30 degrees weather here and there, and there's there's absolutely no snow. So In my eyes, in my point of view, the weather's a little more favorable, down here.
Tiff [00:17:28]:
Oh, I was gonna ask you if you miss you miss the New England winters.
Speaker D [00:17:33]:
I I honestly, I don't.
Tiff [00:17:35]:
Well, your hoodie, your athletic apparel is perfect for the New England weather. I wore it, like, today with the Leggings, and I'm wearing my, multistrand pearls going, you know, I gotta I gotta do my pearl thing whenever I wear whatever I wear.
Reginald Ferguson [00:17:48]:
Essentially, she's She's doing ghetto fab right
Reginald Ferguson [00:17:51]:
now, probably. Uh-uh. That's how
Reginald Ferguson [00:17:53]:
she's that's how she's represented.
Tiff [00:17:55]:
I wore my black cashmere coat over the black hoodie and my black, you can't it, but it's like rattleskin sort of damps print leggings that I just purchased, and a big old shopping spree that I went on. So.
Reginald Ferguson [00:18:09]:
And black sunglasses. Just a whole it's a whole thing.
Speaker D [00:18:13]:
Yeah. However however she puts it together, she makes it happen. So It
Tiff [00:18:16]:
was it's my style. I I can wear whatever I want. Right? That's the that's
Reginald Ferguson [00:18:19]:
that's just style.
Speaker D [00:18:21]:
Be creative with it. Of course. But nice.
Tiff [00:18:23]:
And speaking of style, so, let's fast forward from 2015 to now. On your website, you have a luxury collection. Like Yes. That's We do. That's real designer stuff right there. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Tiff [00:18:34]:
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker D [00:18:36]:
I'll talk about my partner. His name is Amar Vebelou. He's the owner as well. And he's the designer of the team. And so, you You know, for a long stretch of time, we came out with a luxury collection, distributed and, promoted at fashion shows. And, you know, he likes to design, make designs off of, African cultured print, using different fabrics. A lot of dresses were designed, too. He just announced recently that he will not be making dresses now.
Reginald Ferguson [00:19:07]:
Oh.
Speaker D [00:19:07]:
Because right now right now, we're just focused on, You know, the casual streetwear, you know, the joggers, the hoodies, the shirts, you know, in the wintertime. We didn't come out with it this year, but we have in the previous years, the winter beanies. Just the casual, the the the, you know, the the sweatshirt. It's just the casual wear.
Tiff [00:19:23]:
Right.
Speaker D [00:19:24]:
The streetwear is what we're focused on right now.
Tiff [00:19:26]:
Okay.
Speaker D [00:19:27]:
Maybe we might come out with dresses in the future, but right now, that's just put on a hold. So but, yeah, we have that luxury collection where it's come, we we've, come out with, with, dresses and and nice blouses and 2 piece sets and skirts and and all that stuff. Yeah. He goes he goes wild with it.
Tiff [00:19:44]:
I noticed on your website that you, that you have taken part in a couple of fashion shows. Are you gonna be presenting in anything coming up anytime soon?
Speaker D [00:19:53]:
Yeah. There's, we have a Wentworth College fashion show. That's that's more in New England, in the in the Boston area, for for a college. And then there's Curry College as well too. So those are those are the fashion shows we're looking to right now. We do a lot of college shows. You know, they allow us to do pop up shops there. It gives us the a chance to, approach, Market Target.
Reginald Ferguson [00:20:19]:
Yes. You
Speaker D [00:20:20]:
know, the audience of the college kids, the youth, looking at our clothing and and, you know, hopefully purchasing it and liking it. And, also the showcase at fashion shows as well. So that's pretty cool. Yeah.
Tiff [00:20:33]:
I think that's brilliant. You guys have really targeted your I know when I was in college, I spent Pretty much most of my days in hoodies and sweatpants. I mean, that's the that's the way I existed because it was comfortable. We didn't Oh, spit that out. I'm
Reginald Ferguson [00:20:49]:
sorry. I clearly did not do that.
Tiff [00:20:53]:
No. Reg over here. He's, You know, I he always wears a suit, but on the weekends, he sort of relaxes a little bit with a jacket.
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:00]:
I'm very casual today, Ty.
Speaker D [00:21:02]:
Yeah. I see. I see that. Yeah. I see that on his page. You dress as professionals. It's nice.
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:06]:
I appreciate that. Now to let you know, I have rocked your hoodie, And I have photo proof. I just didn't wear it for the taping because I had, an appointment prior to the recording. Okay. But, yeah. I have I have a sport jacket on. I have no shame. And my point is knowing in college, listen.
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:24]:
Clearly, I'm aware of what a hooded sweatshirt is.
Tiff [00:21:29]:
I have a feeling I'll probably wear mine out before reg's. His will look brand new every time he wears it.
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:34]:
That is true.
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:35]:
That that is true.
Reginald Ferguson [00:21:37]:
But I did enjoy it, and it it took me back back in time. But I I wanna I wanna ask a related question to what Tiffany did. I've been really curious. It's it's a 2 parter tie. 1, How have your sales been derived from? Is it strictly been online, or are you in some stores? I know you mentioned the pop up shops. But then number 2, who really is the clientele? You've hinted at it, but I just want I just want greater clarity.
Speaker D [00:22:07]:
So, I mean, like, the demographic target, is, you know, it's unisex. So it's boys and girls, males and females, Age from age 16, I wanna say 16 years old to 30 years old. That's like our main target. The where's your other question? Yeah. So based on, what was the other question again?
Reginald Ferguson [00:22:29]:
Well, let's go to the 1st question. 1st question is, Where have your sales generally been derived? Has it strictly been online? Has it been through the pop ups, you know, pop up shops that you've mentioned? You know, just just tell me, You know, how how are you selling your merch?
Speaker D [00:22:44]:
Yeah. Right now, it's it's physically through the pop up shops that we have at different events and at fashion shows. There will be times where we'll have an online sale here and there just through, you know, marketing on social media Where I'll you know, like, I'll promote I'll promote the, the sweatshirts and the hoodies, you know, on Facebook and on Instagram at a regular basis. And then there'll be times where I Individually find different people to show it to and then build a, conversation from there, and then they'll purchase it from there. But right now, the majority is is, like, physical sales. You know? Like, just people people buying it at the pop up shop and at and at the, at the events, at pop up shops.
Tiff [00:23:26]:
One thing I read is that, some of your merchandise is handmade or made to order. Is that correct?
Speaker D [00:23:32]:
Yeah. A lot of the luxury collection was handmade. He he also like, my partner, he had the designer. He has the heat press machine and the the vinyl machine at his at his house. So Yeah. So it it it's a great way when you start a business to really invest and think about that because you don't wanna You don't wanna waste too much money always sending it to a manufacturer or a company who can do the print screening yourself because they're gonna charge you more. So if you buy the heat press machine and the vinyl machine and get those tools, you know, in your home, you're you're actually saving a bit of money. Yeah, it it it will be a little Time consuming to design the products, but you got to think of it this way.
Speaker D [00:24:12]:
You're saving money. Right. So, you know, we did that for a while. There are times, like, The jackets that we came out with, the the 3 design jackets, those we didn't design handmade. Those were designed overseas, in Congo, in Africa.
Reginald Ferguson [00:24:29]:
So Okay.
Tiff [00:24:30]:
Yep. So you provided work for for people in Congo? Is that was that the purpose?
Speaker D [00:24:35]:
Yeah. There's some tailors there that work. He's a tailor, and he works in a manufacturing company. So that was a connection through him. And then he got it to his his company, and they They finessed it and they made, you know, multiple different design jackets for us. We sent them the fabric, they put it together, then they shipped it back to us. And We were able to come out with the jackets for this winter.
Tiff [00:24:56]:
Awesome. And I saw those jackets online. They're, like, they're featured. The, the the the, arms the sleeves are different from the body of the, of the jacket itself. Very nice. Very interesting.
Reginald Ferguson [00:25:08]:
So I wanna kinda take a step back. What led you and the 3 other founders to do this?
Speaker D [00:25:15]:
Well, I'll I'll say right now, It started out as 4 co owners. Right now it's just 2. The other 2 members just, they, you know, they just departed ways. They just felt, it wasn't something they wanted to do. And that's that's understandable. You know, you You can't, get in anybody's, feelings or how they feel. You just have to, cooperate with them. And we're still good friends, you know? We still talk here and there.
Speaker D [00:25:42]:
I still talk to them, of course. So it's just me and Marvell, the are the co owners right now. And, I mean, what happened was we Before the lucky ones, we did, you probably know the business. It's called Amway. You guys heard of Amway?
Tiff [00:25:56]:
Oh, yes.
Speaker D [00:25:57]:
Of course.
Tiff [00:25:57]:
My family, it's Been huge in my family in the way past.
Speaker D [00:26:02]:
Okay. Yeah. Yeah. And we it's a good business. We we did it at the time. We were introduced to it by a a guy named Kartik, and, he kinda mentored us for a little bit. But, 2 of the co owners at Ty, Marbella and, Eddie, you know, they were in the car one day, and, as we were doing Amway, there was I don't know. They were just losing passion for it.
Speaker D [00:26:24]:
Me, I was in a position where, like, me, I don't like to, like, kinda, like, move, past things or give up on something. But I like to I like to stay with things, but I also wanted to, you know, be with my team and, and move further with the clothing line. But, Eddie and Marvell We're talking in the car, and, you know, they were talking about coming up with our clothing line, doing something with fashion. You know, it would be big. So they pitched the idea to me, And, you know, I was with it. I said, Yeah, I said, What about airway? They said, I think this is better. This is something that that, you know, that'll prosper, and and it's something we can have fun with. Obviously, you know, as a young kid, you're into fashion, of course.
Speaker D [00:27:00]:
I was into fashion too, so it's something that's been in my mind as well. So then we pitched the idea to a Sosa who was in School in, Illinois. And that's why we kinda just departed from Amway and then, established the lucky one. So that's kinda how it happened.
Tiff [00:27:14]:
Nice. That's a great story.
Speaker D [00:27:16]:
Yeah.
Tiff [00:27:16]:
Because I I what I know about Amway, it's wonderful what they do about teaching you how to run your own business. You learn a lot about doing business, through Amway. Am I correct?
Speaker D [00:27:27]:
Yeah, yeah. Amway Amway's a good business. Actually, at school, there's a there's a kid, a young kid, who Was in my class, a good friend of mine, Brandon. He just told I asked him, you know, I always ask kids, you know, what are you doing? Because I wanna I wanna know, you know, if they're into something. And he said, you know, I might be starting this thing called Amway. And I told him, yeah, that's a good business. I was in it, at the early stage in in my life. And, It's a good business.
Speaker D [00:27:50]:
And he was motivated, you know, going to conventions and, you know, seeing the millionaires talk to you and how they can make sure and how to do stuff. So
Tiff [00:27:58]:
Those are motivating conventions for sure.
Speaker D [00:28:00]:
Yeah. They're motivating. I just I just told them, you know, when you do it, you know, any business you do, just, Try to try to stay with it. And, and, you know, God will help you, man, to make the right choices. And you'll you'll prosper, you know? Just just, stay with it And work hard. And, you know, be, productive any way you can. So
Reginald Ferguson [00:28:20]:
Now, Todd, do you feel there's somewhat of a seasonality With the offerings of your brand, since it's relying on on the college circuit, so to speak?
Speaker D [00:28:32]:
What do you mean by, the power circuits? Like
Tiff [00:28:35]:
No. The college. Like, the The college circuit.
Speaker D [00:28:40]:
Yeah. With the college with the college circuit. I feel I feel right now, as we're focusing on the casual wear, like I said, the street wear, I think that's that's gonna, that's gonna help us to reach to reach the schools, especially the kids at the schools. The stuff that we're coming out with now, you know? Like the hoodies, the shirts. Like, we have, I'll just tell you guys, we have shirts, like, different design shirts coming out for the spring. A crop top, a crop top for the spring just for the females, you know, coming out this spring. So I feel like the college kids can really adapt To to the stuff that, we're coming out with right now and that we're focused on, you know, for for the time to come. I really feel like, It it's an influential market the way we're, distributing the clothes that we have right now.
Tiff [00:29:30]:
Do you see a drop in do you see a drop in sales when When school is out.
Reginald Ferguson [00:29:34]:
Yeah. I mean, that's really my point. So you have you have fall semester, you have spring semester. What happens in the summer?
Speaker D [00:29:41]:
Yeah. In the summer in the summer, there is a little bit of drop in sales. Like, yeah. Like, me and my partner were talking about that. Like, our best Our bet like, the the best time we have, a large engagement with sales is around this time, like, you know, December, January, the new year, January, -February, March. So we still have we still have sales, you know, throughout the year. But they do significantly drop in this the I want to say the spring and And the summer. You know?
Tiff [00:30:09]:
Oh, you guys gotta come up with a resort wear collection now.
Speaker D [00:30:13]:
We do. We do. We do.
Reginald Ferguson [00:30:15]:
I didn't hear anything about
Reginald Ferguson [00:30:16]:
a romper. That's all
Tiff [00:30:17]:
I'm saying. We need rompers. Rompers are amazing. Top.
Reginald Ferguson [00:30:21]:
So I'm like, hey. You know, let's let's balance this out.
Speaker D [00:30:24]:
Right? Yeah.
Tiff [00:30:25]:
Yeah. Rompers and jumpers. You gotta do them.
Speaker D [00:30:28]:
Yeah. That those are some ideas. Definitely. I'll I'll pitch it to my partner. We'll see we'll see what we can make happen.
Reginald Ferguson [00:30:33]:
I wanna get back to to your piety as a Christian, coming from a Christian.
Speaker D [00:30:39]:
Yeah.
Reginald Ferguson [00:30:40]:
So what was What was the motivation for you to cite 2 Corinthians 57? Because, You know, obviously, the whole thing about Corinthians is, you know, it's from the apostle Paul.
Speaker D [00:30:59]:
Yes.
Reginald Ferguson [00:30:59]:
Yeah. It's his it's his it's his letters, to those individuals. And, you know, let me as opposed to, like, kinda going in circles, let me, You know, let me make it clear, you know, for the listening audience about what I'm talking about. So ladies and gentlemen, on the other sleeve of the hoodie, It reads, walk by faith, not by sight, 2 Corinthians 57. And I'm literally just gonna read that. And it reads, for we walk by faith, not by sight. So I'm just really curious, you know, in the beginning of this interview, as we're coming to a close now, You talked about being a person of serious faith. So I'm just curious about the inspiration, The selection of that verse.
Reginald Ferguson [00:31:44]:
Break it down.
Speaker D [00:31:46]:
Yeah. I mean, I pitched to my partner, you know, We're gonna put a faith based verse on on the sleeve, something to glorify God and, and give people a sense of hope in their faith as well. So, you know, we we pitched out the different phrases, you know. His glory alone, that was too broad. What was the other one? Walk through the valley, the shadow of death, fear of evil. That was kinda too long. So, we came out, and we we've used Walk by Faith, Not by Sight before, so we decided to use it again. And, you know, that that verse alone, When you read the verse, you know, it it really distinguishes life.
Speaker D [00:32:28]:
It explains life. You know, you don't go by what you see. You know, faith having faith is not -It's not going by what you see. It's going by what what's invisible to you, what you believe is gonna happen to you. And, you know, faith is, you know, described as Not really just believing in something, but if you if you really think if you really go into it, faith is really believing in Jesus, believing in God, That what you're hoping for will come to pass. You know what I'm saying? So, you know, when we we walk by faith, not by sight, it's to believe. You know, don't look at Sometimes people people can lose, you know, have discouragement or lose hope by by little things, you know, looking looking at, you know, maybe their bank account is low -Or, you know, they didn't get they didn't get the position they were hoping for. You know, don't don't lose courage because something didn't happen, you know? Have faith And and and and, you know, believe that, you know, God will will will will bless you and will help you out, you know, through your journey and will put you in a position That not only will where you want it to be, but it'll surprise you, you know? I believe I believe that's the key thing people don't know about faith Is, you know, when you have faith for something, when you're believing for 1 or 2 things.
Speaker D [00:33:40]:
And because you because throughout the time process, you kept faith in God and you believed, You know, God is a God who surprises, you know? What, you know, what's a miracle? A miracle is something that, you know, science can't explain. It's something that only, Only can be explained by God. It's something that God does that surprises you, you know? God is a God, you know, who surprises people. And, you know, when you have faith, you know, you were hoping, you were hoping for this, you were hoping for that. God will surprise you 20 times more than what you were hoping for. So, So, you know, don't live by what you see or what's going on in the present, but, you know, throughout your present, you know, have faith, you know?
Tiff [00:34:16]:
Believe.
Speaker D [00:34:17]:
Yeah. Believe.
Tiff [00:34:18]:
Just like you had to do in in this clothing brand, this business. You have to believe. You have to have faith. That's how you move forward.
Speaker D [00:34:24]:
Yeah. You can't look at the present. You can't look at what's going on. This, this, and that. We're not doing this. And then, you know, like I said, you know, me and my partner, we're very we're very Self driven. So, you know, I just I just feel like, you know, I mean, even when you talk to people, you know, they they'll tell you, don't give up. You know, don't give up.
Speaker D [00:34:41]:
Just keep going. I watched, -Um, I watched a video on Instagram. It was DJ Khaled. And I was watching no DJ Khaled. He has inspirational videos. And he mentioned, he said, you know, don't give up. You know, I don't know who this message is for, but don't give up. Keep going.
Speaker D [00:34:59]:
Keep doing it. Keep pushing forward. You know, don't stop. That's the one thing you don't wanna do is stop. Don't stop. Keep going. So, you know, that just being in business, it's taught me that, you know, you're in it. You know, I feel like when you start a business And you're in it.
Speaker D [00:35:14]:
It's like, why, you know, why would you wanna, you know, give up or, you know, stop? You can't cut it. You gotta Cheap because you already invested your your money into it. You already invested time into it. You know, things may not be as where you want it to be now, but you gotta keep going, you know? Some people run to the finish line. Some people can skip to the finish line. Some people have to cross to the finish line, but as long as you get there, you're good. You know? So you just, -You just Yeah. Just don't give up.
Speaker D [00:35:42]:
And that I hope, you know, people hearing this can, that are in a business or they want to start a business is Don't give up, you know? Human beings are, you know, very, special people, you know? Our brains are made by God. And any -Idea you can think of. It's your business. It's gonna be productive, you know? Human beings are Yeah, human beings are very special, you know? Very smart, Smart people. You don't want to ever, you know, think of yourself as, Oh, I can't start a business because I can't think of this, think of that. I mean, yeah, you can, you know? You're a Smart. You're a human being. You have a brain.
Speaker D [00:36:15]:
You know? God gave you a brain. He gave you ways to think.
Tiff [00:36:18]:
25 years old, people. 25 years old. Yeah. Taking it to church, Ty.
Reginald Ferguson [00:36:24]:
Yeah. Of course. I have
Tiff [00:36:26]:
my hat too. I have to. Yeah. What a great message. So and in in this message, you didn't through your clothing line too. I think, getting the word out, through fashion is unique and, and very, very interesting. Very interesting. And you're doing a you're doing a great job.
Tiff [00:36:45]:
I have I have 1 final question for you as we wrap up this interview, and we wanna thank you very much For, making time for us today. With our interviews, I always like to end on this question. And, the question is, What does the word fly mean to you?
Speaker D [00:37:03]:
The word fly.
Tiff [00:37:04]:
Because our you know, our hashtag is always be fly. So Yeah.
Speaker D [00:37:08]:
Yeah. Yeah. I see that. The word fly. What does the word fly mean? Fly means, It it means it means 2 things. Can I can I say 2 things? Is that cool or
Tiff [00:37:19]:
You could say Yeah. You could say whatever. What does it mean?
Speaker D [00:37:22]:
No. Obviously, when you think of -Be fly, you know. Obviously, you wanna be fly, obviously, you wanna give up a sense of, of, you know, yourself looking well In other people's eyes, you want to, look at yourself as being a positive influence to people.
Tiff [00:37:40]:
Nice. Nice.
Reginald Ferguson [00:37:41]:
You want
Speaker D [00:37:41]:
to be fly, being a positive influence. What else? Looking good, being a positive influence. And also, you know, you know, being Fly is helping others, you know, in in the best way you can. You know, when somebody looks at you and says, you know, he's fly, it doesn't necessarily mean he dresses nice Or looks nice. That's one of the things, you know. You can say, Oh, he's he's fly. You know, he dresses nice and looks nice. But it's not focused on that.
Speaker D [00:38:06]:
It's also the way a person acts, you know? It's not all about the money the person has or how rich he is or how successful he is. It can be about how he treats other people. You know, how he or she treats other people. I like that.
Tiff [00:38:18]:
I like that a lot. That's great.
Speaker D [00:38:21]:
So that's my definition of being fly, is how you're perceived in the public. You know, how you're treating people, -How your character is, you know. And, and yeah, yeah, that's beautiful. -And a
Tiff [00:38:32]:
little bit about how you look.
Speaker D [00:38:34]:
Exactly. A little bit. Yeah. That that that plays a factor in it too. Yeah.
Tiff [00:38:38]:
The human first. Yeah. Of course. Of course.
Reginald Ferguson [00:38:42]:
Yes. Brother, we gotta move on. I really, really appreciate that we finally made this happen, because I know we were going back and forth.
Speaker D [00:38:49]:
Yeah. Yeah. Just trying to make it happen. Thank you guys so much. You know, God bless you guys. Thank you guys for having me. This is this is a blessing, honestly.
Reginald Ferguson [00:38:56]:
And how can we how can we find the brand for our listeners again? Where are we?
Speaker D [00:39:00]:
Yeah. So, you know, the website, for the brand is www.theluckyones with a z And then .com. So www.theluckyoneswithazandthen.com. And I'll start Instagram Is at the lucky ones with the z and then 7777. So the lucky ones and then 7777.
Tiff [00:39:30]:
What do the sevens mean?
Speaker D [00:39:32]:
The seven simplifies, you know, God's creation. You know, God created the world. He everything's in 7 days. He invested on the 7th day. So the sets everything's complete. You know? It's it's complete. It's done. Yeah.
Tiff [00:39:45]:
And with that, we are complete.
Reginald Ferguson [00:39:48]:
And we are done. Ty,
Reginald Ferguson [00:39:50]:
thank you so much for the time.
Speaker D [00:39:52]:
Thank you, Radley. Keep us
Reginald Ferguson [00:39:52]:

Speaker D [00:40:05]:
Of course. Of course. No problem. Thank you guys so much. Thank you, Tiffany. Thank you very much. God bless You guys, thank you.
Reginald Ferguson [00:40:09]:
Alright, brother. Peace.
Speaker D [00:40:11]:
Alright. Peace. I don't know.
Tiff [00:40:12]:
Bye.
Reginald Ferguson [00:40:13]:
That was really cool.
Tiff [00:40:14]:
I thought so. Very nice experienced.
Reginald Ferguson [00:40:16]:
Young dude making it happen for himself.
Reginald Ferguson [00:40:19]:
25. 25. By faith.
Tiff [00:40:23]:
Right?
Reginald Ferguson [00:40:24]:
For real. For real.
Tiff [00:40:25]:
I I just it's it's, it's remarkable to me.
Reginald Ferguson [00:40:28]:
No. It's it's really it was really impressive.
Tiff [00:40:30]:
Where he is in his life and the message of the brand, and the fact that we had to call our 1st call in guest, that was pretty cool.
Reginald Ferguson [00:40:36]:
Yes.
Tiff [00:40:40]:
Then we could do it. Now anybody is available to us.
Reginald Ferguson [00:40:44]:
We prefer to have face to face
Tiff [00:40:47]:
Interviews. But But if you are not able to come into our studio
Reginald Ferguson [00:40:52]:

Tiff [00:41:09]:
Not just the states, but the world.
Reginald Ferguson [00:41:11]:
Oh, no doubt. We're worldwide.
Tiff [00:41:13]:
That's right. Now Let's move on because we gotta keep things rolling, Reg. The next the next section, the next section is our,
Reginald Ferguson [00:41:21]:
I must have it.
Tiff [00:41:33]:
That is so the what the I must have it is is a fashion item that Reg has deemed a necessary must have item in, in your wardrobe. Right?
Reginald Ferguson [00:41:45]:
My wardrobe.
Tiff [00:41:46]:
In your wardrobe? Or Yeah. My Pretty much a man's wardrobe.
Reginald Ferguson [00:41:49]:
Well, I guess. Look. When we talk about me, it's I.
Tiff [00:41:52]:
Okay. Okay. We're getting real real right and personal, Reg. What is your No.
Reginald Ferguson [00:41:57]:
It's It's merely vocabulary.
Tiff [00:42:00]:
What is your I must have it?
Reginald Ferguson [00:42:02]:
I need something with some British Mille Raine in it.
Tiff [00:42:05]:
Oh, Mille Raine or Mille Raine, as the French say. I love that word. I I don't know why. I love that word.
Reginald Ferguson [00:42:13]:
It's a cool it's a cool word.
Tiff [00:42:14]:
It's a super cool word.
Reginald Ferguson [00:42:15]:
I like to say Mille Raine.
Tiff [00:42:17]:
So let's Talk about it. What is Milrayne? What is it?
Reginald Ferguson [00:42:20]:
Well, way back in the day, when ships were sailing, You had these sails, and they had to protect them. The sails are made out of con cotton canvas. So One of the ways they were protecting them, I forgot the actual method. I mean, I'm not English.
Tiff [00:42:40]:
Linseed oil.
Reginald Ferguson [00:42:41]:
Linseed right. Linseed. But the thing about the linseed, linseed was cool, but linseed couldn't stand the test of time, so to speak.
Tiff [00:42:50]:
Nope. It would brown and it would crack.
Reginald Ferguson [00:42:51]:
Right. Right. Exactly. But this other group of individuals that we're talking about use paraffin.
Tiff [00:42:58]:
Yes.
Reginald Ferguson [00:42:59]:
And that was the secret ticket. The secret ingredient, really.
Tiff [00:43:02]:
Right. And it's called it it's basically waxed cotton.
Speaker D [00:43:05]:
Yes.
Tiff [00:43:05]:
And it's, you know, it's a way to make the sails on sailboats Back in the day, worked better because, you know, regular cotton, the air passes through gets gets through, but you you put the oil over it and you're sort of closing the pores of of the, of the of the weave. And, the air can't pass through, so it moves the sailboat a little bit better. But Because of the breakdown, it wasn't something that lasted and they were constantly having to re oil or remake sales and stuff like that. So the whole wax cotton thing came in, which is is totally brilliant, I think. Super brilliant.
Reginald Ferguson [00:43:40]:
Waterproof.
Tiff [00:43:42]:
And the company The company that did this, the 1st company, to ever come up with this idea, was called, British Milrayne. And they did, they it was a cotton finishing company. They weren't weavers. But The big weavers of the time for the sales, was Francis Webster limited back in the day. And this is we're talking 1700. So that's way back in the day. So they started sending their their fabrics to the British for this this waxing process. It's a paraffin based wax, that's applied to the cotton, and I don't know the process.
Tiff [00:44:24]:
It is patented. At least 4 different patents, I think, they have on it from back in the day so that this process stays it's to this very day within the family. It's passed on from family to generation to generation. But what's interesting about this is, in, 1987, not too too long ago, British Milrayne acquired Sprout. Required Francis Webster, the big company that was doing these sales and doing this kind of fabric and offering this fabric, and they expanded the supply of wax cotton into Europe and USA markets. So that's when we got the wax cotton. Now We got waxed cotton, but we don't really sailboats, Reg. No.
Tiff [00:45:08]:
So why do you need something with with British no rain. Well,
Reginald Ferguson [00:45:14]:
we don't live in New England like Tayah used to, But I just feel we have 4 seasons here in the city. And when it rains, it pours. Uh-huh.
Tiff [00:45:24]:
Like the other day. Oh my god.
Reginald Ferguson [00:45:27]:
There you go. So wouldn't it be nice to have a jacket with some British mill rain on it and just nail those drops and just going Just flying off your jacket.
Tiff [00:45:37]:
So that's what they use the fabric in outerwear. And also, Reg, they make bags. They make Milrayne bags.
Reginald Ferguson [00:45:45]:
I'm aware of that, but I don't need
Tiff [00:45:48]:
anymore bags. Any Milrayne bags?
Reginald Ferguson [00:45:50]:
No. I don't need anymore bags.
Tiff [00:45:53]:
But they have pockets.
Reginald Ferguson [00:45:55]:
I have I actually have a waterproof bag.
Tiff [00:45:59]:
Yes. You do.
Reginald Ferguson [00:46:01]:
Studerheim in the house. It has pockets.
Tiff [00:46:06]:
Pockets are important.
Reginald Ferguson [00:46:07]:
And it's a tote, and I like it because I'm very ambivalent about totes. That's a conversation for another day.
Tiff [00:46:12]:
Well, the waterproofing of fabric has a genesis, and we now know. And it started with the British mill wearing with the waxed Cotton. Ahoy. Always interesting to know. And and also another interesting thing, after they entered the USA markets, their their their, I guess, biggest buyers at the time. They were they really, sort of entered into the market.
Reginald Ferguson [00:46:35]:
Well, I know they do a lot of collabos.
Tiff [00:46:37]:
Well, they did, country attire and motorcycle brands. What? They were quick to adapt wax cotton. Because if you're riding a motorcycle and it rains, you you're gonna get wet unless you're wearing some wax cotton. So, and also with the country wear. You know? You're outside. You're hunting. You're, you know, doing whatever you do in the country. You can get, a lot of lot of outerwear products made with this, and it all started with British Millerene.
Reginald Ferguson [00:47:05]:
Now, ladies and gentlemen, if you are fortunate enough To have one of these jackets or acquire 1 based on my recommendation. Over the years, You're gonna need a little revitalization. So guess what?
Tiff [00:47:19]:
What?
Reginald Ferguson [00:47:20]:
British Milleraine's got this little cream. Really? Oh, yeah. Go buy yourself a can. It looks like you're buying shoe polish, and a little dab will do you.
Tiff [00:47:32]:
That is awesome. That makes a lot of sense. The the thing that pops in my mind are the dusters, that the cowboys, you know, the cowboys Sure. The Midwest wear, the the ranchers. You know, they have the dusters with the The, the law it's a long
Reginald Ferguson [00:47:45]:
Long. Yeah. I like that.
Tiff [00:47:46]:
And it's got The shoulders. Yeah. The extra I don't even I can't you know what I'm talking about, the shoulder cover to it. That's, that's made with wax cotton, my friends. And that keeps them dry when it's raining outside, and they gotta rustle up the cows. Oh. That's awesome, Reg. Alright.
Tiff [00:48:06]:
I didn't I wouldn't have never thought that you you needed in you had that that as a must have item.
Reginald Ferguson [00:48:11]:
Yeah. Why not? Shout out shout out to, Best Made Co. Because they do some jackets. They do some parkas and stuff
Tiff [00:48:19]:
Oh, nice.
Reginald Ferguson [00:48:19]:
With British mill ring.
Tiff [00:48:20]:
So So you could you can get that. I mean, a lot of raincoats really don't have, You know, cool fashion to them or cool style. So this is an option. This is another option.
Reginald Ferguson [00:48:31]:
Oh, trench coat.
Tiff [00:48:32]:
Yeah. But your
Reginald Ferguson [00:48:33]:
the trench
Tiff [00:48:33]:
coat is your basic trench coat.
Reginald Ferguson [00:48:34]:
Yeah. Let's
Reginald Ferguson [00:48:35]:
style let's style.
Tiff [00:48:37]:
It's all style.
Reginald Ferguson [00:48:38]:
For me.
Tiff [00:48:39]:
Alright.
Reginald Ferguson [00:48:40]:
Go get you one. I need 1.
Tiff [00:48:44]:
So let's move on to fashion word of the day.
Reginald Ferguson [00:48:54]:
Fashion
Reginald Ferguson [00:48:57]:
word. Fashion word. Good day.
Tiff [00:49:01]:
Alright, Reg. Yes. You'll be happy to know I only brought 1 word today.
Reginald Ferguson [00:49:07]:
Oh, really?
Tiff [00:49:09]:
Yep. Only one word.
Reginald Ferguson [00:49:11]:
Oh my gosh.
Tiff [00:49:12]:
I have decided exactly which word I'm going to use. So should I go first?
Reginald Ferguson [00:49:16]:
Yeah. Certainly.
Tiff [00:49:17]:
Alright. So my this is where we, just to go back. What we do is, Reg brings a word and I bring a word, and we both challenge each other with our word, you know, to to, you know hey. Do you know the definition? Can you spell it? Can you use it in a sentence? It's I mean, what else? It's fun.
Reginald Ferguson [00:49:36]:
Okay.
Tiff [00:49:37]:
Alright. My word for you. Yes. Very easy.
Reginald Ferguson [00:49:40]:
Sure.
Tiff [00:49:42]:
Pleat.
Reginald Ferguson [00:49:44]:
Pleat? Yes. P l e a t. Ding ding
Reginald Ferguson [00:49:47]:
ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding.
Reginald Ferguson [00:49:48]:
It's a fold in the fabric.
Tiff [00:49:50]:
Yes. That is correct. It is. To but but to talk any even further, it's a stitched
Reginald Ferguson [00:49:57]:
and folded fabric.
Tiff [00:49:59]:
You gotta have a stitch to make it a pleat. Otherwise, it's just a crease. Right. No. That's true. And it's, it's stitch and folded fabric that forms a permanent crease on pants. Pleats have fallen out of fashion, and I don't know if you've noticed that.
Reginald Ferguson [00:50:14]:
Depends on who you're talking to.
Tiff [00:50:16]:
Well, where my source where I I got my fashion word of the day As it's fallen out of fashion as they often make men's legs look wider than they actually are. Now if you think about it, a tight tight tight pleat going down the center of pants, is not a slimming thing. Who would have thought? I would have thought it would have been something, you know, that would be slimming, but
Reginald Ferguson [00:50:36]:
I would like to argue that.
Tiff [00:50:38]:
Okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:50:40]:
So I haven't used I haven't done my sentence yet, so you have to remind me.
Tiff [00:50:44]:
I will.
Reginald Ferguson [00:50:45]:
Oh, okay.
Tiff [00:50:46]:
I'm on it.
Reginald Ferguson [00:50:47]:
Well, here's the thing, ladies and gentlemen. Right now, majority of time, We're doing flat fronts.
Tiff [00:50:55]:
I love the flat fronts. I think they're more flattering.
Reginald Ferguson [00:50:58]:
I have nothing against a flat front, but my man, Edward Sexton will tell you from our previous episode listeners. Check that one out. For example, someone like me Who likes to utilize their pockets of their pants? Flat front, not really good.
Tiff [00:51:17]:
No room.
Reginald Ferguson [00:51:18]:
Not really good. So you can utilize a pleat which then for people who utilize their front pockets like myself, It compensates. It covers.
Tiff [00:51:29]:
Right. It's more it's more utility. It's a utility option.
Reginald Ferguson [00:51:34]:
Certainly. But my point is It doesn't make your legs look bigger per se. I mean, you can have a narrow cut of the leg. I I mean, you of all people, you're the seamstress. You could have a narrow cut of the leg and still have a seam.
Tiff [00:51:50]:
Right. That's what I said. I I would've
Reginald Ferguson [00:51:52]:
A pleat.
Tiff [00:51:53]:
Pardon me. A pleat. As a seamstress, I would think anything going down the center. But then again, I don't know. It just depends on the application.
Reginald Ferguson [00:52:00]:
Here's my point. I have some suit material because I have this connect now out of the UK, And I am waiting to have the proper collab with a tailor to utilize this suiting fabric.
Tiff [00:52:18]:
And are you going to get a pleat reg?
Reginald Ferguson [00:52:20]:
Heck yeah.
Tiff [00:52:21]:
Alright, ma'am.
Reginald Ferguson [00:52:22]:
And just and just a single plea. I mean, I could do a double too. I'll still be fly, but I'm doing a plea.
Tiff [00:52:29]:
Alright.
Reginald Ferguson [00:52:29]:
It's gonna be nice.
Tiff [00:52:30]:
So use it in a sentence. Oh, did you just use it in a sentence?
Reginald Ferguson [00:52:34]:
I've been using it In sentences, but I will I will do this.
Tiff [00:52:38]:
That was well done. Very clever. You used it over and over again.
Reginald Ferguson [00:52:42]:
I did.
Tiff [00:52:42]:
Very nice. Smooth. I like it.
Reginald Ferguson [00:52:44]:
Probably get the extra bills on that one.
Tiff [00:52:45]:
Yeah. Search the producer has noted your request. Alright. Bring it on, Reg. You're gonna trip me up. I know it. Every time I give you a easy one, you you you bring in
Reginald Ferguson [00:52:56]:
I am. I really am. But I'm gonna keep it simple because there are different ways to pronounce this word. Okay. So I'm gonna keep it at its simplest. And then remind me, I'm gonna give you the alternative pronunciation.
Tiff [00:53:06]:
Okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:53:08]:
Blucher.
Tiff [00:53:10]:
Balucher. Oh, boy.
Reginald Ferguson [00:53:14]:
No. I
Tiff [00:53:15]:
think you're on a roll. You've tripped me up, like, 3 episodes.
Reginald Ferguson [00:53:18]:
Oh, really? Mhmm. Who's counting?
Tiff [00:53:21]:
In competition, I always count. Bloucher, b l o u c h e r. Oh, no. Ugh. I know.
Reginald Ferguson [00:53:32]:
You really were. Just a different vow.
Tiff [00:53:36]:
A r? No. I r? O r.
Reginald Ferguson [00:53:40]:
I didn't
Reginald Ferguson [00:53:40]:
say where it was.
Reginald Ferguson [00:53:41]:
I just said to you.
Tiff [00:53:42]:
I o
Reginald Ferguson [00:53:43]:
u. And sometimes why.
Tiff [00:53:45]:
Alright, Reg.
Reginald Ferguson [00:53:46]:
B l u c h e r.
Tiff [00:53:49]:
Oh, hello. It is just exactly how it sounds.
Reginald Ferguson [00:53:52]:
Yeah.
Tiff [00:53:53]:
Are the other pronunciations Blue shade.
Reginald Ferguson [00:53:55]:
Bloucher.
Tiff [00:53:56]:
Bloucher.
Speaker D [00:53:57]:
Yep.
Tiff [00:53:58]:
Okay. So what is it?
Reginald Ferguson [00:53:59]:
It's a shoe with the tongue and vamp cut in 1 piece Oh. With open laces.
Tiff [00:54:06]:
Oh, we saw
Reginald Ferguson [00:54:06]:
It's pretty much a derby.
Tiff [00:54:08]:
Oh, okay. We saw a shoe like that when we went to,
Reginald Ferguson [00:54:12]:
What? Mali?
Tiff [00:54:15]:
No? It was a it was a launch of a collaboration with a, a standing brand, and, oh, it's a while back. Anyway, but, yeah, the the the the the salesperson showed us how the shoe was literally 1 piece of leather Yes.
Reginald Ferguson [00:54:29]:
Molly. The Bruno Molly event. Bruno Molly. Yes.
Tiff [00:54:33]:
I when you said Molly, I'm thinking m o l l y.
Reginald Ferguson [00:54:37]:
Right. Yes.
Tiff [00:54:39]:
Alright. Okay.
Reginald Ferguson [00:54:40]:
Molly got me nauseous, Danny Brown.
Tiff [00:54:44]:
What?
Reginald Ferguson [00:54:45]:
Oh, it was a wrap quote.
Tiff [00:54:46]:
Oh, okay. So I, I I missed the spelling. Let me see if I can use it in a sentence. Sure. When I step out in my blue shirts, I'm often tripping because they're really not made for me. How was that?
Reginald Ferguson [00:55:08]:
It was fine. Just made me laugh with that pregnant pause.
Tiff [00:55:14]:
It's called Thinking on My Feet.
Reginald Ferguson [00:55:15]:
That's fine. Ladies Bon Bon. Ladies oh. Wow. Yipes.
Tiff [00:55:21]:
I still got it.
Reginald Ferguson [00:55:22]:
You do. I have a pair, ladies and gentlemen, in dark gray, Barney's private label.
Tiff [00:55:28]:

Reginald Ferguson [00:55:29]:
And they are fly.
Tiff [00:55:31]:
Because you gotta always be fly. Right, Reg?
Reginald Ferguson [00:55:35]:
Well, yeah, if you say so.
Tiff [00:55:37]:
