Tiff [00:01:18]: Tolerating the, changing weather from snow to ice to monsoon to balmy, almost 60 degrees to now back to 32 degrees. Reginald Ferguson [00:01:27]: I'm really fine with the weather. Tiff [00:01:28]: It's like a roller coaster ride living here, I tell you. Reginald Ferguson [00:01:30]: I don't give it a lot of thought. Okay. I wake up. I see the number. I dress appropriately. Tiff [00:01:35]: Because you have a, you have a closet the size of a of a normal studio apartment. The biggest closet I've ever seen, and I have a lot of girlfriends with big closets. But this man Reginald Ferguson [00:01:48]: is ridiculous. You're playing me out On the air. Tiff [00:01:51]: Yeah. Something to wear for every degree, every temperature. You are fashionably styling every single time. Reginald Ferguson [00:01:58]: Thank you. I do have a wardrobe. Ladies and gentlemen, you become my client. We will develop yours. We'll build it. We'll strengthen it. I am not gonna be ashamed of having a wardrobe. Impop. Reginald Ferguson [00:02:10]: Don't. Don't. But I just have to Tiff [00:02:11]: let the peoples know that you are qualified for what you do. Highly qualified. Reginald Ferguson [00:02:18]: Yes. When people see my closets, They just look at me and growl. Tiff [00:02:23]: So what, what Reg does is a fashion stylist, styling consultant. He is the fashion geek of New York Fashion Geek. He will, at your request, help you you up. Yeah. By by going through the closets. Reginald Ferguson [00:02:39]: Closet inventory. Yes. Yours may not be as big as mine, but it doesn't mean that we shouldn't go through it. Tiff [00:02:44]: That's correct. Sometimes it could be a fast go through, and sometimes if it's a closet like yours, it can take a little time. Reginald Ferguson [00:02:50]: Wow. Ladies and gentlemen, what what's going on here? Tiff [00:02:53]: But I'm Reginald Ferguson [00:02:53]: proud of my closets. Tiff [00:02:54]: But that's that's an amazing step towards getting pinpointing your personal style and fashion. And and I think And pop. The everyday man. At least the ones I see on the street, I always can use a little help with you. And that's not all you do though. You also do some shopping, And pop. Reginald Ferguson [00:03:11]: Don't you? Oh, absolutely. I accompany my clients, and we purchase items to create their look. Every once in a while, If something if I get some information on the fly, I've been known to send send them out on their own, but I think the accompaniment is the most important thing. And that's what I prefer. I think the client prefers that too. Tiff [00:03:30]: And you have your your finger on the pulse of, of of some exclusive sales, some some, sample pop ups here and there. And, that always helps because you can get some really good stuff at some really good prices. Reginald Ferguson [00:03:47]: I certainly try to keep my ear on the street. It's a old New York City expression, ladies and gentlemen. Never pay retail. I'm not against paying retail, But if we can get it wholesale Tiff [00:03:58]: There you go. Reginald Ferguson [00:03:59]: Or somewhere in between. Tiff [00:04:00]: Or on sale. Speaking of? Reginald Ferguson [00:04:03]: Yes. Tiff [00:04:03]: Lord and Taylor. Reginald Ferguson [00:04:05]: Wow. L&T. Tiff [00:04:07]: In peace. Reginald Ferguson [00:04:07]: End of an era. Tiff [00:04:09]: Unbelievable. Reginald Ferguson [00:04:11]: My cousin used to work for them. Big shout out to Ernest Rogers. That was his 1st gig essentially coming out of school. Wow. Tiff [00:04:20]: Lord and Taylor, one of the, well, the very first, clothing retailer on Fifth Avenue, 650,000 square feet Reginald Ferguson [00:04:30]: Man. Tiff [00:04:30]: Of business, went out of business, closed its doors on January 2, 2019 with a going out of business sale that started in October. And pop. By the time January 2nd rolled around, you had, empty display cases. You had Reginald Ferguson [00:04:48]: They were selling displays. Tiff [00:04:50]: They were selling displays. They were Imposter. The light fixtures. Reginald Ferguson [00:04:52]: Right. Fixtures. Right? Thank you. Tiff [00:04:54]: That were when it first opened, they were gas, the gas light fixtures that were converted to Impotricity. That's how old they they're over a century on Fifth Avenue out of business. Reginald Ferguson [00:05:05]: Beautiful windows. Tiff [00:05:06]: Yep. The business called WeWork is taking over the build the building. Reginald Ferguson [00:05:10]: Yes. I'm familiar with WeWork. Tiff [00:05:11]: Yep. I think we WeWork is a brilliant it's a brilliant, concept. It's shared workspaces, And pop. But it's such an iconic building and such an iconic department store, Lord and Taylor. I remember shopping in there. Reginald Ferguson [00:05:23]: Love the windows. Love the windows for Christmas. I would Yeah. I wouldn't claim to be a serious patron of the spot. Last time I was there was a few years ago because my sister-in-law gave me a gift card. It was very nice, Loretta. Thank you so much. Big shout out. Reginald Ferguson [00:05:38]: And I bought some Impa. Badass Calvin Klein slicky slick sneakers. Slicky slick. Smoothie smooth. Tiff [00:05:46]: I was there slip Reginald Ferguson [00:05:47]: on joints, Tiff [00:05:48]: house tops. I was there a couple years ago too. I actually had a friend who used to work there. She was, She was either a buyer or she was in that department of Lord and Taylor. And, and the sales are ridiculous that that that they had every I mean, they had literal clearing out sales of some really nice stuff I bought. Reginald Ferguson [00:06:06]: I've always been told that. Tiff [00:06:07]: I bought a bunch of shoes. That's what I was like, what? I hit it I hit it big on the shoes. I'm talking 75% off. Right? Very nice stuff. That's right. It was very sad. I unfortunately did not get there for the going out of business sale, but that's Reginald Ferguson [00:06:23]: Nor did I. I was aware of it, but Tiff [00:06:25]: I don't know. It kinda made me like No need. I it made me feel like a vulture praying on the dead in a way. I I know. I had an emotional response. Reginald Ferguson [00:06:33]: An opportunity. Tiff [00:06:34]: I know. Can you believe that? Reginald Ferguson [00:06:35]: I had such an emotional response. I'm like, oh my God, I feel so bad for them. I don't wanna go feed the bits and bits and bits. What? Every little bit counts. I mean, I just I didn't have any clients that made worthy of a trip there. I didn't think of going for myself. I have essentially everything with the exception of Our I must have it items. But I was like, just let them let them fade away Tiff [00:07:01]: Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:07:01]: From my memory. Classic store. Yep. It's not the first one. Won't be the last. Tiff [00:07:07]: Nope. Yeah. Things things are changing. Reginald Ferguson [00:07:09]: Bricks and mortar is going through it. Tiff [00:07:11]: Yep. So Depending. And pop. And I, I feel bad for not going in, but I feel like I went in during its heyday. Reginald Ferguson [00:07:20]: So Tiff [00:07:21]: Understood. I got to experience it. Reginald Ferguson [00:07:23]: Rest in peace, L&T. Tiff [00:07:24]: Yes. Alright. Anything else we got we wanna catch up on before we deep dive into, And pop. Our first segment of our show. Well, you were Reginald Ferguson [00:07:34]: talking about how you didn't wanna be a vulture, but I heard you got a deal Somewhere else that wasn't closing. Tiff [00:07:41]: Not closing. I just discovered, Reg. So I started a new job, and Yeah. It's business casual, which My prior business, it was a dog walker. So clearly, my wardrobe had to change. Sure. So the I I Actually had an opportunity for the first time since I started this job back in mid December to And pop. Actually go shopping. Tiff [00:08:04]: You know? I I've been wearing stuff. I used to have an office job many, many, many, many years ago, and I always And pop. I always buy classic pieces, so what I had worn back then still kinda worked, you know, for for today. But, I'm a a bit a little bit bigger than I was, back in the day. Reginald Ferguson [00:08:21]: Just a little bit. Tiff [00:08:22]: Just a little bit. So, you know, I was sort of stressing the clothing and trying to be comfortable in it. Reginald Ferguson [00:08:29]: Yeah. Exactly. I Tiff [00:08:31]: ate light lunches because there was no room for anything else. So I was like, come on. Let's go buy some Reginald Ferguson [00:08:36]: Breeze. Come on. Tiff [00:08:38]: So I went shopping, and I hit a thrift store, And pop. Because I always like to do Reginald Ferguson [00:08:43]: thrift stores. Tiff [00:08:44]: To thrift. I you it's amazing what you find. Like 1 thrift store, I found a a Calvin Klein dress that I wore for For a wedding, the tags were still on it. Brand new, and I paid $30 for that gown. Reginald Ferguson [00:08:55]: It was a gown. Wow. Tiff [00:08:57]: That's why you go to thrift stores. Reginald Ferguson [00:08:59]: And pop. But and also you can Tiff [00:09:00]: find some styles that are that are very still current and cool, but it might be a piece of clothing that was sold 20 years ago. Reginald Ferguson [00:09:08]: Well, Tiff, that's just your sneeze. Tiff [00:09:10]: Yeah. And you get it for 5 or $10. Reginald Ferguson [00:09:12]: Come on. That's what you do. You've been doing this ever since you were growing up. Tiff [00:09:15]: I and I am so attractive Impop. Attracted to, finding the deal and find you said earlier that, you know, why pay retail? Exactly. Because you can I don't know? For me, it's like a competition. Let's go see what I can find today. It's like a it's like a treasure hunt. That's how I approach shopping. Let me see what Imposs. Sales I can find today. Reginald Ferguson [00:09:36]: You did watch Confessions of a Shopper hog game. Tiff [00:09:38]: I didn't finish it, but, yeah, I was watching it on a flight one time. And that's I totally was thinking about that when I was And pop. Shopping at this new store. It's called Foxes on upper on 86. And, apparently, they have one old school name. Reginald Ferguson [00:09:50]: That's like a seventies name. Yeah. Tiff [00:09:51]: Well, I Foxes. They have a they have stores Reginald Ferguson [00:09:54]: Free buffet. Tiff [00:09:55]: All over. There's, like, 20, 25, 30 stores. Reginald Ferguson [00:09:57]: I'm not familiar with this one. Tiff [00:09:58]: All over Queens and Brooklyn, in New York, out on the island, foxes. Reginald Ferguson [00:10:03]: There used to be a club. Tiff [00:10:05]: 3 floors, Reg. The clearance floor is on the 3rd. So you go, you climb the stairs to the 3rd floor. And pop. You hit the clearance first, then you work your way down. And guess what I found? Reginald Ferguson [00:10:18]: What, Tiff? And pop. Tiff [00:10:20]: I found a Bagley Mishka shirt dress fully lined Reginald Ferguson [00:10:25]: Right. Tiff [00:10:25]: In a, animal print, brownish color. Impop. Nice collar, stands up a little bit, nice point, little gathering in the back to give it some sort of shape and fit. Originally priced $395. I paid 59. Reginald Ferguson [00:10:44]: Oh, man. Tiff [00:10:46]: Brand new. And pop. And it looks beautiful with my my brown tall boots. And I'm thinking big chunky necklace or maybe a a small scarf or a medallion pendant necklace because it's got a deep plunge V neck. Very nice. Reginald Ferguson [00:11:04]: Very chill. Scored. Tiff [00:11:06]: I look like, I look like I'm about ready to go fly. I'm kinda sort of panhandling. Oh. Even though it is, your animal print. And pop. You know, I'm I'm over 50, so I can wear those. Reginald Ferguson [00:11:19]: I didn't understand the rules, but thank you for breaking it down. Tiff [00:11:21]: Oh, that's the rules I create for myself. Big chunky necklaces and animal print for the the lifestyle over 50. Keeping it real, keeping it cool, keeping it young. Okay. And that's my fashion find of the week. Reginald Ferguson [00:11:37]: That was hot. Right? Good for you. Tiff [00:11:39]: Didn't you have 1? Reginald Ferguson [00:11:40]: Come on. Tiff [00:11:42]: Share it. Reginald Ferguson [00:11:43]: Well, ladies and gentlemen, I had an appointment, and I was early, So I had to kill some time. Every once in a while, I like to kill time by going in a store. Tiff [00:11:58]: Because that's a good warm place to kill time. Reginald Ferguson [00:12:01]: Sure. Absolutely. Tiff [00:12:03]: And what store did you go in, Rich? Reginald Ferguson [00:12:04]: I went to the Nordstrom Rack off of Union Square. Tiff [00:12:08]: Impop. I love that store. Reginald Ferguson [00:12:11]: That was the original location. I think they have a few others now. Right? There's one in Chelsea. I don't know where the others are. Tiff [00:12:17]: I don't know either. Reginald Ferguson [00:12:18]: And now and now we're about to have our 1st true Nordstrom. We have Nordstrom men now Right off of Time Warner Center. Tiff [00:12:26]: Okay. Reginald Ferguson [00:12:27]: And I think on that block, next block, we're gonna have a true Nordstrom. But The one at Union Square is the original Nordstrom Rack for us. There's also 1 in BK on Okay. On Fulton. I I was like, I got, like, 25 minutes to kill. I like to go in there. So I was browsing in men's shoes, Just killing time. Looking at stuff potentially for clients, just ideas. Reginald Ferguson [00:12:57]: That's all. Tiff [00:12:57]: You're always working. Reginald Ferguson [00:12:59]: Yeah. I guess. And clearly, I like doing it. Tiff [00:13:01]: Right. Reginald Ferguson [00:13:02]: I was mindful, what checking out my watch just in case. Anyway, let's just get down to it. I got a pair of whole cut brown Oxfords, $89. What? I know. I couldn't believe it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:13:22]: I was like I even I just wanna let you know, ladies and gentlemen, I didn't wanna be late for my event, so I left. Tiff [00:13:29]: You left them there? Reginald Ferguson [00:13:30]: Oh, yeah. I left. And I said, If they're there, when I come back Tiff [00:13:33]: It was meant to be. Reginald Ferguson [00:13:35]: I do the same thing. So silly. Tiff [00:13:37]: I do the same thing, Reg, but you have to think about You had 25 minute. You were drawn. The universe was time. There. Reginald Ferguson [00:13:44]: Oh, I was just killing time. Yeah. Tiff [00:13:45]: You're meant to have those. Reginald Ferguson [00:13:47]: But, ladies and gentlemen, I'm gonna rationalize this purchase, which clearly was an incredible deal. I have a pair of cap toe brown Oxfords. Not gonna mention the brand, But the quality to me wasn't what I originally thought it was, and I've I've bought shoes by this brand before. I felt like this pair was a bad batch. I had to get there was a split on the side of the cap toe where the perforation was, and I don't think that was really from wear and tear. I just think it was from poor craftsmanship. I had to get it repaired at Leather Spa. Big shout out to Leather Spa. Tiff [00:14:28]: That's awesome that you can do that. That you take the shoe in and take it in, and it's like getting a brand new pair of shoes when you get it back. Reginald Ferguson [00:14:34]: Yeah. But I've always felt a slight pinch. I'm just like, you know what? I'm going to give these to the Bowery Mission. Tiff [00:14:42]: Oh, nice, Reg. Reginald Ferguson [00:14:43]: And I wanna get this Major score. It's gonna take me some time. Work them in. I already got the taps. Taps on the toes, taps on the heels. Gentlemen, You wanna have a shoe forever? Tiff [00:14:56]: That's how you do it. Absolutely. Reginald Ferguson [00:14:58]: Because if you don't Taps. Yeah. Bounce of prevention. Because if you don't, you're gonna replace a heel? You know how expensive it is to replace a heel? It's ridiculous. Tiff [00:15:06]: Yeah. It gets expensive. Reginald Ferguson [00:15:08]: And pop. Tiff [00:15:08]: I've replaced my boot heel 3 Reginald Ferguson [00:15:09]: times now. Replaced a tap. Pennies, essentially. My guy in my neighborhood, Taps on the back, $3. Now grand I'm grandfathered in price wise. Tiff [00:15:21]: Oh, okay. There we go. I have to put that out there. Reginald Ferguson [00:15:23]: And pop. Reg sent me. Tiff [00:15:25]: Loyalty. Reg sent me. Okay. It'll be $10. He Reginald Ferguson [00:15:28]: sent 3. So the plan is, ladies and gentlemen, I'm gonna transition. I'm gonna break these in slowly and then eventually ship out the others. And that brand, well, I'm not gonna sell under the table. Tiff [00:15:41]: Impa Well, don't because Reginald Ferguson [00:15:42]: you said you you like the others. No. I do. I do. But to be honest, don't think I'm gonna buy from them anymore. Tiff [00:15:48]: Reg, give them another chance. It's just one And pop. Shoes. Reginald Ferguson [00:15:51]: Alright. Fine. Tiff [00:15:51]: Yeah. Don't don't throw yeah. Sometimes things happen with the machinery and or or even And pop. Maybe the hand stitcher, the hand cutter, or any anybody working with any of the materials had a bad day. Nobody's perfect. Reginald Ferguson [00:16:06]: Nothing's New York, y'all. Lot of competition here. Tiff [00:16:08]: That's true. You have to you have to bring your a game in whatever you do. Reginald Ferguson [00:16:11]: That's true. Go. Tiff [00:16:13]: Alright. Speaking of a game, we got a fashion hero section coming up. Reginald Ferguson [00:16:23]: Fashion. Fashion. Tiff [00:16:28]: Heroes. And these guys, They're bringing their a game again. Reginald Ferguson [00:16:31]: Absolutely. Tiff [00:16:32]: And the the operative word there is again. Yep. Alright, Reg. We're entering in the fashion hero segment. Who is our fashion hero for today? Reginald Ferguson [00:16:41]: Cross colors. What? I got my producer Smile and nodding. Look at that. Yes. Y'all going back in time. Tiff [00:16:49]: Clothing without prejudice since 1989. Yes. We just made a rhyme. Did you get that? Reginald Ferguson [00:16:54]: That was slick. When we did the episode with Swatch, it got me to thinking about back in the day again. Right. And when you look back in the past, it can easily get you to thinking Wistfully, romantically. I could do all that yet still think accurately. And I'm about to do that right now Talking about cross colors. Tiff [00:17:16]: Alright. We we have a sound effect of taking us back in time. Reginald Ferguson [00:17:20]: No. I I think you were the sound effect. Tiff [00:17:22]: Okay. Reginald Ferguson [00:17:23]: As a little kid in the nineties, there was a strong wave of Afrocentricity in the air, in our music and in our gear. And CrossColors reflected that. It was a black owned label run by 2 brothers. I believe 1 was from Compton. I would see their ads in The Source and just be mesmerized. I love their motto, clothing without prejudice. It struck me really hard. I loved it. Reginald Ferguson [00:17:49]: And their colors were striking. The label was cool. I respected it. And I think that's important when you're a young consumer. Tiff [00:17:57]: Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:17:57]: I mean, is this a label that you can rep? Tiff [00:18:00]: And a color just to mention the they're primary colors. So Reginald Ferguson [00:18:03]: Good point. They pop. Tiff [00:18:08]: And pop. I mean, they're saturated green, saturated yellow, saturated blue, very pop. I mean, boom in your face colors. Reginald Ferguson [00:18:14]: Right. And particularly spring some particularly summertime in New York and that label and that and that sneeze, I was just like, wow. Tiff [00:18:22]: Because most people in New York back in the day and today, they they stick with the grays and the blues and the browns and the black, and then you have this color. The landscape changed. Reginald Ferguson [00:18:32]: Absolutely. It it it it hit. So you when you think about these brands, you're like, what do they stand for? What are their practices? And, also, I think that was just the era, you know, of af Afrocentricity. I mean, that's where my mind was. Tiff [00:18:43]: Well, that's what I was gonna say to you. Before Cross Colors, Impa. Were the brands thinking of what of their message? I mean Reginald Ferguson [00:18:51]: Brands any brand to be successful has a message. We're talking about something that was overtly political Tiff [00:18:57]: Yes. Reginald Ferguson [00:18:59]: Through race. So do you have brands like that all the time? No. Tiff [00:19:06]: No. Reginald Ferguson [00:19:07]: And that's what struck me. And I wanna be extremely clear to the listening audience. I'm a native New Yorker, and that was a West Coast brand. And that East Coast, West Coast, I was certainly a part of that. So I was kinda like, I was ambivalent, but I was also struck. And I was, like, I was interested. I was intrigued. Right. Reginald Ferguson [00:19:28]: Because it took me a long time to really give the West Coast respect just from a rap perspective, much less anything else. And, clearly, I I turned around eventually, but so that was it was odd. It was weird, but I was, as usual, even back then, keeping magazines in business, And I love the sauce. 1st, I used to buy it, then I subscribed to it. This is the back in the day sauce before the beef and the guns and All that stuff. So big shout out to Stephanie Jackson who used to work at The Source and who gave me a free copy of Jodeci's Diary of a Mad Men that I played literally every day. Thank you, Ernie, my cousin, for being so patient. I play that every day. Tiff [00:20:13]: Oh my god. Reginald Ferguson [00:20:13]: Because I freaking love Jodeci. Tiff [00:20:15]: That's funny. Reginald Ferguson [00:20:17]: But, again, I think what we're talking about I think it's more important now than ever before in terms of brand and communication and culture. Tiff [00:20:29]: I agree. And I just talking back and referring to, episode we did prior, we had a young man who's, you know, with a brand that also has a message starting in the game. And I think it's a wonderful direction that fashion is is going in. It's being conscientious And pop. About what what their business and their brand says. Well, Reginald Ferguson [00:20:51]: we're being very specific. Right? Because there are a lot of brands that are not conscientious. Tiff [00:20:56]: Yeah. That's what I'm saying. These new upcoming brands being that way is is a great way is a great direction for fashion this day because And pop. You you you gotta be socially conscious. You gotta be you gotta you gotta if you're gonna say something, you gotta know what you're saying. Reginald Ferguson [00:21:13]: But, allegedly, some of these brands are saying things Unintended. Like, we already know the beef with D&G and China. Tiff [00:21:22]: Yep. Reginald Ferguson [00:21:22]: I mean, Let's not forget the stuff for H&M and black folks. So, I mean, these mistakes, They're tired, and I'm tired of hearing them. Tiff [00:21:33]: Well, they're getting educated. These, these big old brands that are kinda trying to, you know, remain relevant. And pop. They're they're being educated. Reginald Ferguson [00:21:42]: Well, kinda like Swatch, Crossco is use of print and TV media through videos was significant. I mean, I'm seeing Snoop and Dre in the gear. I'm seeing Pac. I was gonna say Pac. Yeah. I'm seeing TLC. I'm seeing the Fresh Prince. Tiff [00:21:58]: Fresh Prince of Bel Air, my favorite TV show back then. Oh, I Reginald Ferguson [00:22:03]: love that show. Tiff [00:22:05]: Love that show. I loved it. Reginald Ferguson [00:22:07]: I could tell. In living color, which Bruno Mars actually bit For his video with Cardi B and lacrosse colors. So that was that was great. You know? Again, what's old is what's new again. We were bagging and sagging back then, y'all. Tiff [00:22:22]: The the biggest clothes ever made. Reginald Ferguson [00:22:25]: Straight straight up. Unbelievable. About that with My Fashion hero Tiff [00:22:29]: AI. Reginald Ferguson [00:22:29]: Yes. I mean, they were doing tops, t shirts, jeans, jackets, hats, caps. Tiff [00:22:35]: Room for 2, please. Reginald Ferguson [00:22:36]: Their focus were kids, but then they launched the, the classic line, pardon me, y'all, the the classic line for adults. I don't know if you guys remember that. I loved it. Again, in the source, Magic Johnson. And I was just like, what? It felt really good being a black kid rocking a black label. Tiff [00:22:56]: Nice. Reginald Ferguson [00:22:58]: Because outside of that previous episode we have with that kid, Taye, It just doesn't happen enough. Tiff [00:23:03]: No. It's starting to happen more, and I think that's great. It's so full of pride. It's awesome. Reginald Ferguson [00:23:10]: I love the message of Cross Colors. They were against gang violence. They were in LA. So the blood Bloods and Crips thing was real. Tiff [00:23:19]: Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:23:20]: I remember not understanding that at all until I went to NYU. Tiff [00:23:26]: I didn't understand until I moved to LA in 2000. Reginald Ferguson [00:23:28]: Okay. Well, when I went to the U, as I affectionately called, I went to Stern. I used to rock this black leather jacket, And I looped a red bandana around one of the the sleeves. Tiff [00:23:40]: Oh, boy. Oh, boy. Reginald Ferguson [00:23:43]: It was on the left, and this upperclassman, her name I believe her name was April Bowie or April Scott. She was from LA, and she said if I wore that bag where she was from, I would get myself killed. Mhmm. And I remember I looked at her like she was absolutely crazy, particularly A snotty entitled native New Yorker of myself. And little did I know how real that statement was. They really seemed to be the 1st wave of African American owned urban streetwear. They Meaning CC. Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:24:24]: They were. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, at that era, it was them, WalkerWear, Carl Kanai, Marice Malone. Yeah. I talked about Marice Malone one day because I've to have total man crush on Marice Malone. I mean, they were rocking for, like, 4 or 5 years, meaning cross colors, and then poof. Gone. Reginald Ferguson [00:24:47]: They were gone. Tiff [00:24:48]: Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:24:49]: But their impact should never be forgotten. Long live cross colors. Educate to elevate. Tiff [00:24:57]: Exact absolutely. That's I I can't answer that. Reginald Ferguson [00:25:01]: And pop. Tiff [00:25:02]: Educate to elevate. I'm so glad you that's what I wanted you to say. I wanted one of us to say that because that was the basis of their brand, which was And pop. I love it. I love the message. Their story is amazing. They started off, as a company doing surf beachwear. Reginald Ferguson [00:25:19]: Yeah. Tiff [00:25:20]: Ain't that strange? Reginald Ferguson [00:25:21]: T shirts. It was to me. Tiff [00:25:22]: Yeah. That's what that that's what they like, this the beachwear and the surfwear. And I'm from Cocoa Beach, Florida, so I absolutely understand that that niche of, of fashion and design. But, I have in my research. Just one thing. Cross Colors is one of the first companies to make urban gear fashionable. And pop. We have to we have to put that out there. Tiff [00:25:44]: And they're coming back, Reg. Reginald Ferguson [00:25:46]: I know. They're coming back. I can't believe it. Tiff [00:25:49]: Went to their, their website. Tupac is right on the the front right on the front. Reginald Ferguson [00:25:54]: My man, Pac. I I don't know what they call Tiff [00:25:56]: it, the way the moving images move across The top of the screen. But yeah. Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:26:00]: Swatch you. Tiff [00:26:01]: He's one of this. Clearly, my coffee is wearing off. Alright. Well, I'm glad we, we cover cross colors because we were supposed to do it a while back, and we Right. We preempted it for a a guest. And pop. Reginald Ferguson [00:26:15]: And, And and don't forget, they also are doing a collab with Pyre Moss. Tiff [00:26:20]: Oh, yes. You have to say Reginald Ferguson [00:26:22]: that. Tiff [00:26:22]: Yeah. One thing I wanted to to talk about. You know, we we know we talk about them as a throw throwback fashion icon that's coming back in the game. Right. So I guess my question is, how are they? What is what is their influence, back in the day and today on the fashion for the everyday man. Let's let's loop that back in. Reginald Ferguson [00:26:46]: Yeah. Sure. Because I wanna be clear. Everything I talk about is through the lens of being African American and being a native New Yorker, but it is not unique to that. So meaning, If we're talking about gear, gear holds no color. Gear holds no race. Only thing you need to worry about is your size. Can can you fit the item or not? Tiff [00:27:11]: Yeah. So That's kinda important. Reginald Ferguson [00:27:13]: Right. Exactly. So, Absolutely. For the everyday man, it makes a whole lot of sense whether it's back then or their revitalization now because I am a suit and tie guy. Ladies and gentlemen You are. It is the weekend, and I have a sport jacket on. Tiff [00:27:31]: With with a turtleneck. Reginald Ferguson [00:27:32]: With a turtleneck. With a turtleneck. Tiff [00:27:33]: Very studious. Very nice. Reginald Ferguson [00:27:35]: I thought I was fly. Tiff [00:27:36]: Your Harris Tweed jacket, And pop. Reginald Ferguson [00:27:38]: Might I ask This is my Harris Tweed, y'all. Tiff [00:27:40]: You gotta say it. Reginald Ferguson [00:27:41]: Oh my god. Tiff [00:27:42]: With a pocket square. Reginald Ferguson [00:27:43]: It is. Yes. And Tiff [00:27:44]: That's his casual. He's wearing a jacket with a pocket square. Reginald Ferguson [00:27:48]: Yes. Tiff [00:27:48]: I'm wearing, something extremely casual. I'm just chilling in my hoodie. Reginald Ferguson [00:27:53]: But let's let's get to Before before we get back to the point, I do wanna shout out though, the pocket square is my late grandpa's. So Tiff [00:28:02]: Yeah. Grandpa in the house. Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:28:04]: I like Tiff [00:28:05]: it when you bring them along to the podcast recordings. Reginald Ferguson [00:28:08]: Yeah. I've just you know, I'm still going through literally, the transition with all these items and materials. Tiff [00:28:16]: Right. Bringing old what? Bringing old, making it new? Reginald Ferguson [00:28:20]: Yeah. Yeah. Tiff [00:28:21]: Pocket square. Reginald Ferguson [00:28:22]: I I I don't wear this Harris Tweed jacket a lot, and I was like, I wanna I wanna kit it with a pocket square. And one of the few things that my grandfather that I was able to, To, obtain or a bunch of pocket squares. So I'm never buying a pocket square again. I'm really I'm really happy that I could use my grandpa. Tiff [00:28:41]: You're all it's All set now. That's amazing. Reginald Ferguson [00:28:44]: But to answer your question specifically, not every customer is gonna be suit and tie fly or sport jacket on the weekends. So if we're talking about casual Tiff [00:28:57]: Yes. Reginald Ferguson [00:28:57]: If we're talking about more leisurely, Cross colors fits in perfectly. And particularly, if you're curious and interested in having a pop of color. Tiff [00:29:07]: And pop. Right? Reginald Ferguson [00:29:08]: And maybe a wardrobe that generally is monochromatic, particularly to your point. Living here in New York, the official color still is black. No pun intended. So why not? Why not utilize some of that stuff? And if you're a eighties or And, baby, come on. Tiff [00:29:25]: You gotta go back. Reginald Ferguson [00:29:26]: Come on. Just a little bit. Tiff [00:29:28]: Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:29:30]: I may find my Hbis, HSB. Oh my god. That was terrible. That's totally gonna be deleted. I'm literally gonna ask the producer to delete that. My my my black college hoodie. I'm totally totally drawing a blank. We're gonna clear all that up. Reginald Ferguson [00:29:46]: I'm totally drawing a blank on the acronym. I was about to say HBCU. Thank you. That was laborious. Search for the rescue. Yeah. I know. I think my black I think my I think my black card's gonna get revoked. Reginald Ferguson [00:29:57]: But Tiff [00:29:58]: It's alright. Reginald Ferguson [00:29:59]: I may pull out, Tiff [00:30:00]: You're not perfect. Reginald Ferguson [00:30:01]: May pull out my Norfolk state. So, yeah. No. It's it's totally appropriate. Tiff [00:30:07]: And that's important for us to tell our listeners is that you don't have to be just a suit and tie guy to to to need consultation from, Fashion Geek number 1 Reg. If you're casual all the way all the day, Reg can absolutely be, of service to you as well. Reginald Ferguson [00:30:24]: Yeah. I always wanna be clear to to a current customer or potential customer. The goal is not to be me. This took years to build. Whatever you want, whatever you aspire to, we're gonna hook you up. Tiff [00:30:39]: Alright. That's awesome. Reginald Ferguson [00:30:41]: Impop. Cross colors in the house, y'all. Wee. Back. Tiff [00:30:45]: I wish I knew the song. Reginald Ferguson [00:30:46]: Pulling out my HBCU hoodie. Tiff [00:30:48]: Okay. There you go. Boom. Got it right. Reginald Ferguson [00:30:51]: I know. I don't want I don't want them to take my card. Tiff [00:30:54]: And you mentioned your, your grandfather, before. So let's move on into the next Impa. Segment that we have. Reginald Ferguson [00:31:00]: Oh. Past. Man, stumbled right into that segue. Tiff [00:31:04]: You did. Reginald Ferguson [00:31:05]: I must have it. I must have it. Tiff [00:31:16]: And pop. Reginald Ferguson [00:31:18]: Reg. Tiff [00:31:18]: Yes. What must Reginald Ferguson [00:31:20]: you have today? A pocket watch chain with a 5 for my grandpa's pocket watch. Wow. Yeah. Tiff [00:31:30]: Now I know you were looking for that some a month ago. I guess you Reginald Ferguson [00:31:34]: haven't found 1 yet. No. I did. And then I kinda zoned. I found something on Etsy that I liked, But I wanna be I wanna be really clear. I think in order to really do this properly, I need a 3 piece suit. And pop. Tiff [00:31:50]: So you must I must have it. It's probably not necessarily the chain with a fob. It might be a 3 piece suit. Reginald Ferguson [00:31:55]: Well have 1? I should not anymore. Tiff [00:31:58]: Okay. Reginald Ferguson [00:31:58]: I only have 2 pieces. But with this material I got from my English connect. Tiff [00:32:03]: Oh, it would look so awesome. Reginald Ferguson [00:32:05]: Three pieces 3 piece will probably be back in my future, but the point is, Yeah. Kinda zoned. I don't wanna say I flaked. I was looking at I was looking at chains. I found some nice stuff on Etsy. I totally recommend Etsy, y'all. Tiff [00:32:24]: I haven't explored Etsy or Reginald Ferguson [00:32:26]: There's a rabbit hole too. I mean, not in a bad way. But, Yeah. You can really find some very interesting Tiff [00:32:31]: I went there when I was getting married, and I needed a hair a hairpiece thing. And I, you know, I briefly looked at it, and that's it. And pop. But, it seemed like, oh, this is a lot of cool crafty stuff here. Some art art very artistic people there. Reginald Ferguson [00:32:44]: Totally is. And Etsy, big shout out, BK. That's where they're headquartered. Are they? Yeah. Oh. Absolutely. It's a Brooklyn based company. Tiff [00:32:52]: Etsy in the 5 boroughs. Reginald Ferguson [00:32:54]: Yeah. They're in Dumbo. Tiff [00:32:56]: Didn't know that. Well, Reg, you asked for it, and I found it. I found 4 pages Reginald Ferguson [00:33:02]: What? Tiff [00:33:03]: Of pocket watch, chains with fob Reginald Ferguson [00:33:06]: Oh, no. Tiff [00:33:07]: For you. Reginald Ferguson [00:33:08]: Oh, Tiff, that's so nice. Tiff [00:33:09]: Something this is and talk about this is just the first search I did. And pop. So this will get you started. Reginald Ferguson [00:33:17]: Oh, thank you. Tiff [00:33:18]: Many different styles. It just has depends on what your pocket watch looks like Reginald Ferguson [00:33:22]: Well, I wanna really be clear, ladies and gentlemen. The difficulty for me is and I think that's why I didn't pull the trigger. I found 2 on Etsy. I think what's difficult for me is I really want it to match. And unless you're actually at a store in which to me, where am I going to if any place I could do it is here in New York, But where can I find a store to get one? So that's why I felt online. Tiff [00:33:51]: Right. Reginald Ferguson [00:33:52]: But you surprised me, I wanna surprise you. I never I I don't like bringing it out a lot, but Tiff [00:33:59]: There it is. Reginald Ferguson [00:34:01]: Yeah. Here it is. Tiff [00:34:02]: Oh, wow. That's beautiful. Reginald Ferguson [00:34:04]: Yeah. Yeah. Well, my grandpa had mad style, and I know he acquired it. So this is really like a heirloom. That's why I've always been nervous. I used to rock it in junior high school and high school. Yeah. Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:34:15]: I'd bring it out, and then he gave it to me, I think in college, after college, I'm glad I did. I'm glad I got it because, you know, with the recent passing of my mom, My grandpa stuff was essentially obliterated. My grandma's stuff, I saw everything. So I'm so glad Tiff [00:34:34]: You had that. Reginald Ferguson [00:34:34]: There there were a few things that I kinda did a power move, and I was like, grandpa, You don't want that. You wanna give it to me. And he was like, yeah. You're right. And I'm glad I did that. Tiff [00:34:42]: Selsmen from a young age. Reginald Ferguson [00:34:44]: Yeah. I guess. But this it's, ladies and gentlemen, It's a gold filled Elgin pocket watch. Tiff [00:34:51]: Elgin. Very pretty. Reginald Ferguson [00:34:53]: Hopefully, you can hear that TikTok. Improperatures gave me the thumbs up. And it's, I mean, it's pristine, so I've gotta clean this this front again. It should be like the way it is in the back. I can do that. But, yeah, I'd like to I think I'd like to Tiff [00:35:12]: I think that would look very nice with that suit fabric if you Impop. I love the idea of getting a 3 piece suit, made by Taylor, custom made for you, and then accessorizing with that lovely pocket watch with a new chain and fob, which we're gonna find for you. Just let us know because Reg must have it. And this is a true must have it item. It's not like a it's not like an item that you dream of having that's kind of, you know, maybe out of your reach or whatever. This isn't you need this. Tiff [00:36:08]: It's not an I have it. It's an I need it out item. Wouldn't you say? Reginald Ferguson [00:36:13]: Yeah. Absolutely. I mean, all y'all can hear me. I mean, I'm cheesing because it's it's my grandpa. Tiff [00:36:19]: Big old smile. His voice changes when Reginald Ferguson [00:36:22]: he smiles. And, I mean, I love I can't wait to really look at this. This This round of search and you're printing it out, first, that's really touching, because, you know, to me, when you're doing this, you're not really doing it for me. You're doing it for my family, and it really means a lot. And, yeah, I wanna do right by my grandpa. And, of course, because I'm the fashion geek, I'm like, well, was complimented with a suit. So look look how that works, that rationalization. Well, if I get that, I have to do it with a suit. Reginald Ferguson [00:36:51]: So I guess that means another suit. And another suit, and another suit. Reg, how Tiff [00:36:56]: many suits do you have? Reginald Ferguson [00:36:58]: 18. Tiff [00:37:00]: Wow. I don't know anybody else with 18 suits, people. Reginald Ferguson [00:37:04]: Yeah. Well, I mean, there's a lot of seasonality involved. Tiff [00:37:08]: Right. Reginald Ferguson [00:37:08]: So I can't wear a summer suit in the winter. Nope. Can't wear 1 too soon in the summer. Nope. So Tiff [00:37:13]: Although some people do. Yep. Yep. Yep. Reginald Ferguson [00:37:17]: I mean, the great I think the great news is I'm all about the parka. We should talk about this another time, but there's this cat who goes to Pitieomo. He's a old school k. He's a older k. He's, like, 60 something years old, And I read his post on Insta. He wasn't wrong. He was like, you gentlemen he's Italian, I believe. He's like, you gentlemen who wear these duvet covers. Reginald Ferguson [00:37:40]: And I was like, you know what? I recognize. I understand where he's coming from. I got a dope ass, foul robbing Police parka. I love it. And matter of fact, one of my boys, Paul Buttenhoff, I remember he peeped it. Big shout out to him, and I love it. And the thing about it is you can wear More of a all weather suit when you have a parka like that. Tiff [00:38:06]: Yep. Reginald Ferguson [00:38:06]: So do I have a top coat? Yeah. I have a top coat. I actually have 2. But to be honest Tiff [00:38:12]: It's the weekend. Reginald Ferguson [00:38:14]: But it's not even about that's the freaking weekend. I'm rocking that during the week. It's not a problem. To me, ladies and gentlemen, everything you wear is about where you're going. And if I had a high fluent event, I wouldn't rock the parka. No. I'd put on the top coat. Tiff [00:38:31]: Right. Reginald Ferguson [00:38:32]: But I don't have those opportunities every day, so the park is just fine. And pop. Because the most important Tiff [00:38:38]: is being warm and dry. Reginald Ferguson [00:38:39]: And I'd be warm with the top coat. I'm that's that's not what I'm saying. But I I respect his steez, and he's fly. He's a old cat too. He's, like, 60, 70 years old. See him a lot on the Insta. They're at pity. But oh, you know, in Florence. Reginald Ferguson [00:38:52]: But I'm rocking the duvet cover. Tiff [00:38:56]: It's fine. I think that's so funny because Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:38:59]: No. I recognize that. I was like, Tiff [00:39:01]: it brings up the visual. Reginald Ferguson [00:39:02]: The whole time. I get you. And Tiff [00:39:03]: you And it's Reginald Ferguson [00:39:04]: it's I wanna make it clear because one day we're gonna we need to talk about pitioma. Big shout out to my boy, Jay Good Jared Gooding. He has very strong opinions about it. I can't get him on this mic, and that's fine. But the point is, there will come a day in which I or you and I will be invited to go. That's the only way I'm going. Okay. To do some biz. Tiff [00:39:24]: Right now. Reginald Ferguson [00:39:25]: I ain't going just to hang out and chill. Tiff [00:39:26]: Let's make it happen. Reginald Ferguson [00:39:28]: But the point is, when I go, because it's twice a year, every 6 months, That winter one, that park is coming with me. Tiff [00:39:35]: You're gonna make a statement. Reginald Ferguson [00:39:37]: Hell, yeah. And I'll be like, if you wanna see what's fly, See me inside, and I take off this coat. Tiff [00:39:43]: Right. Reginald Ferguson [00:39:43]: My duvet cover. Tiff [00:39:45]: It's such a great visual because he's right. It that's exactly what it looks like. But it's it's it's, you it's Parkers Reginald Ferguson [00:39:54]: have come parkers have come a long way. And if I came out with my Columbia joint and my Columbia joint is off white, that only comes out if it's, like, 20 and below. And And I'm here to tell you. When I put that on y'all, when I get on the train, I Tiff [00:40:09]: unzip and Reginald Ferguson [00:40:10]: steam comes out. Right? It's old school, big, puffy. I love it. Tiff [00:40:13]: You can go to Alaska with that coat. Reginald Ferguson [00:40:14]: It's amazing. And I will rock it again if I have to, but meanwhile, I'm rocking with Faux Robin. And pop Tiff [00:40:21]: And that is it for fashion item of the day. Reginald Ferguson [00:40:24]: Yeah. Yeah. I must have it. Yeah. We kinda Tiff [00:40:26]: I mean, oh, that's right. Reginald Ferguson [00:40:28]: Yeah. I must have it. I don't know why you keep on. Yeah. I I must have it. Tiff [00:40:32]: So the producer will delete that. Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:40:34]: I must have it. Tiff [00:40:35]: Gonna do Reg, you're gonna do me too. Delete that question. Reginald Ferguson [00:40:38]: And pop. So I'm Tiff [00:40:38]: like, no. I'm just kidding. Listen. I'm not perfect, and sometimes I go off in my own head when, you know, when I'm thinking about things, and I mix things up. I'm a, I'm a metaphor mixer. Reginald Ferguson [00:40:47]: And pop. Tiff [00:40:48]: Sometimes sometimes I might, I'm a movie going. Reginald Ferguson [00:40:54]: Fashion word of the day. That is our new sec our next session. Wow. Fashion word. Fashion word. A good day. A good day. See? Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:41:10]: The coffee is really it's not the inner yeah. Clearly. Tiff [00:41:13]: Wearing on. Reginald Ferguson [00:41:14]: Alright. Maybe maybe maybe I need to do this. Tiff [00:41:16]: Yeah. Do Reginald Ferguson [00:41:16]: would you would you like me to Tiff [00:41:18]: Take it over, Reg. Take it over. What is the fashion word of the day section? Reginald Ferguson [00:41:21]: Reg, take the wheel. So fashion word of the day, we bring a word to each other, ladies and gentlemen, to challenge our knowledge. You You have to spell it. You have to define it. Use it in a sentence because Tiff [00:41:35]: I like it. Reginald Ferguson [00:41:36]: The caffeine is rubbing Rubbing her the wrong way. I'm gonna just get right to it. Tiff [00:41:40]: Good. Tiff [00:42:30]: Yeah. A Milanese buttonhole. It is, a hand stitched buttonhole where, the threads are tightly side by side from the top to the bottom, and it's finished on the ends with, And pop. Double double backstitch. Something like that. Boom. Alright. I've done a couple couple of those. Reginald Ferguson [00:42:52]: Look at that. Impella. Spelling, not so good. If you can stitch it, you can use it in the same Tiff [00:43:07]: Even though they are very attractive, And pop. A Milanese buttonhole is a pain in the ass to do. Reginald Ferguson [00:43:16]: How's that sentence? That was great. But I'm here to tell you, when When I get my next suit done Oh, that's tight. Joint. Gotta get that. Gotta get it. Tiff [00:43:25]: They look so good. Reginald Ferguson [00:43:26]: Want any machine stitching. No. So whoever's stepping up me on the tailored tip, I'm talking to you, Edwin. If you are ready for this assignment, big check out, big shout out to Edwin and Sons. Yeah. I gotta have someone a stitching. There'll be no nope. Tiff [00:43:46]: I can't wait to Reginald Ferguson [00:43:47]: see it. Tiff [00:43:47]: That's gonna be beautiful. And you can Absolutely tell those buttonholes from a machine done buttonhole. You can absolutely tell. Reginald Ferguson [00:43:52]: Exactly. Tiff [00:43:53]: And they they last. Reginald Ferguson [00:43:55]: I ain't playing y'all. Tiff [00:43:56]: Nothing. They don't come undone. They don't Imposs. Fray. It's very nicely done. Reginald Ferguson [00:44:00]: And then I can easily put whatever adornment right there through the slot, through the hole. Tiff [00:44:06]: Very nice. Reginald Ferguson [00:44:06]: There you go. Tiff [00:44:07]: Very nice. Reginald Ferguson [00:44:07]: Maybe maybe I'll put a carnation. I'm old school like that. Tiff [00:44:10]: You almost stumped me. That's a that would be, if I hadn't done them, I probably would not have known what they were, pot. But I'm well aware of those. Okay. You ready for my very simple words? Yes. So already saw because I've laid my No. It didn't. Reginald Ferguson [00:44:23]: No. No. I didn't see it. It's probably my comeuppance. I'm probably Tiff [00:44:26]: Impa. No. You please. This is super easy, but I I have a reason why, why I I brought this word. And the word that I'm bringing to you today is Lapel. Reginald Ferguson [00:44:38]: Oh my gosh. Perfect timing. L a p e l. Lapel. Yes. Lapel. Tiff [00:44:46]: Fetch, define lapel. Reginald Ferguson [00:44:48]: You know what? I can't. I'm gonna get stumped. No. I mean, I clearly, I know what it is. Tiff [00:44:54]: Well, then tell me what you know Reginald Ferguson [00:44:55]: what it is. How to define it, so I'm gonna get buzzed. I really am. I mean, obviously, I can tell you the different types of lapels. Tiff [00:45:03]: Okay. Reginald Ferguson [00:45:03]: That's easy. Tiff [00:45:04]: Well, okay. So do you want me to read the, the definition, and then we can talk about the types of lapels? Sure. Okay. The folded fabric on the front of a suit jacket. Reginald Ferguson [00:45:14]: I never would have come up with that as a definition. Could. I know what it is, but I don't know how to And pie. Tiff [00:45:18]: It's usually notched or peak. And, also, I'm gonna add Reginald Ferguson [00:45:21]: in Those are my tights. Those are my tights. Tiff [00:45:23]: Or should be in and this is most important and should be in proportion width wise to your tie. Reginald Ferguson [00:45:31]: Well, let's talk about that. Tiff [00:45:32]: I wanted to bring that up. Reginald Ferguson [00:45:33]: Particularly because I'm buzzed on the definition. Tiff [00:45:35]: Impa. Because that's a style choice, I think, but it's also you gotta have some rules. You gotta know the rules before you break them. Right? Reginald Ferguson [00:45:43]: I agree. It's very interesting because we were talking about pitioma briefly, and we should probably dedicate a segment once, for that. I've hinted at that. You You didn't take the hint. But anyway Tiff [00:45:55]: I did. I said we will. Reginald Ferguson [00:45:56]: Oh, we will? Tiff [00:45:56]: And I know the guest to pair. Reginald Ferguson [00:45:58]: Oh, okay. Cool. So When you're looking on Insta, ladies and gentlemen, or if you're just doing a Google search, I think sometimes you're seeing lapels run amok. Tiff [00:46:11]: Impop. Interesting. Reginald Ferguson [00:46:13]: I do, particularly on the DB tip, meaning double breasted. Doesn't mean it can't happen on a single. To me, what I look for with a client in terms of providing advice Is I never heard about it in terms of the relationship to the width of the tie. I've never heard that, and that makes sense to me. I wanna be clear. For me, it's all about your body type, your frame, your chest. Tiff [00:46:45]: Yes. Reginald Ferguson [00:46:46]: Do you have a bird chest like me, or do you have a big barrel chest, like, someone with a big barrel chest? So, like, Shout out to, Kings Brothers on the incident. Those are 2 big dudes. They're twins. Big strapping guys. So That's that's that's where it's at for me. Obviously, through epics of time, is a lapel wise and narrow? Sometimes you can reflect era. I understand all that. That's fine. Reginald Ferguson [00:47:16]: That's all about relativity, but you need to see how you rock it. How does it look with you? And my overall point is sometimes on Insta, I'm seeing lapels so wide that I'm just like, you could just fly away. Like, it just it just I don't even think it makes sense. Tiff [00:47:34]: I think back to the zoot suit era. Those big, big lapels with the peak that that that I And pop. But they were huge, and I loved them. And it was perfect because the pants were also baggy. It was it was a very styling period of time. But, talking about the lapel, the no matter how it's changed, it's always been peak or notched as far as Reginald Ferguson [00:47:58]: Or shawl. Tiff [00:47:59]: Or shawl as far as the the the and the shawl is more of a collar. It's not it's called a shawl collar because it starts In the back of the neck, you have both pieces, and it just runs all the way down to the 1st button on the front of your jacket on it's 1 piece of fabric. 1 piece on both sides. So it's 2 pieces of fabric that are with a with a center seam in the back of your neck running all the way down. Whereas when you're doing a lapel with a peak or notch, You've got 4 pieces of fabric because you've got the you know, whether it's a peak or a notch, you've got your bottom lapel joining with your top collar. So that's that's the, you know, main difference. Shawl collar is normally used for evening wear. Reginald Ferguson [00:48:42]: Sure. Tiff [00:48:43]: Where's your peak or notched is going to be, you know, your jacket or your suit for whatever you're doing everyday wear. Reginald Ferguson [00:48:50]: Right. So And evening wear as well. Tiff [00:48:52]: And pop. And just so we are clear, the notch looks like there is a notch, like a cutout of your collar to your lapel. Whereas the peak, And pop. There's a the bottom part of the lapel rises to a peak a little bit higher than the piece that comes from around the back of your neck to connect with it, the collar piece. So that's that's a peak, and that's fancy. Reginald Ferguson [00:49:14]: I'm a fancy guy. Tiff [00:49:15]: Peak collars are pretty Reginald Ferguson [00:49:16]: today, though. I have a Tiff [00:49:17]: notch. Notch. Reginald Ferguson [00:49:18]: I love my notch. Tiff [00:49:20]: So there is that is LaPel. So simple. So easy. Reginald Ferguson [00:49:24]: I know. And I never woulda got it. Up. Tiff [00:49:26]: They Yeah. Reginald Ferguson [00:49:26]: I never woulda got it, so I have no shame. Tiff [00:49:28]: You got me on a simple one one time too. I was able to spell it, but I could not define it. Reginald Ferguson [00:49:33]: It it happens. Tiff [00:49:34]: Alright. Reginald Ferguson [00:49:35]: And pop. Fun, fun, fun. Do I have to use it in a sentence even though I botched it? Tiff [00:49:40]: I would love you to. Would you mind? Reginald Ferguson [00:49:42]: No. Not at all. When I get this custom suit done, I'm going peak lapel. Tiff [00:49:50]: Nice. I was so hoping you were gonna say that. Reginald Ferguson [00:49:52]: With 1 button. Tiff [00:49:53]: With 1 button. Reginald Ferguson [00:49:55]: Oh, hell yeah. Tiff [00:49:56]: And and you're gonna it's gonna be 3 piece. So you're gonna have, you're gonna it's gonna be a shawl lapel vest then. Right? Reginald Ferguson [00:50:03]: I haven't even figured out the vest, but yeah. Yeah. I guess so. But I I just Tiff [00:50:06]: have to go no lapel. You could. Reginald Ferguson [00:50:08]: No. I you know, to be honest with the vest, I prefer no lapel. So just simple fabric in the back is gonna be fly. Tiff [00:50:16]: I can't wait. I'm excited.
